Job summary

Johnson Controls commissioning engineers are sought to verify installation, test pre-action and gas suppression systems, and support safety compliance on site in Kolkata, India. You will prepare checklists, document results, and train customers on system operation.

You will coordinate with vendors, conduct hydrostatic tests, and ensure NFPA standards compliance per project requirements, with a focus on safety and reliable building performance.

Qualifications

• Experience with commissioning of fire suppression systems (pre-action and gas systems).
• Familiarity with NFPA standards listed (NFPA 13, 72, 2001, 12).
• Ability to prepare commissioning checklists and test procedures.
• Ability to generate as-built documentation and handover packages.
• Customer training on system operation and maintenance.
• Coordinate with vendors for interface testing and testing activities.

Responsibilities

• Verify installation according to drawings and specs.
• Conduct hydrostatic pressure testing of piping networks.
• Test operation of deluge valves, pre-action valves, releasing panels, solenoid valves, and switches.
• Coordinate with Fire Alarm System vendors for interface testing.
• Prepare punch lists and commissioning reports.
• Support authority inspections and acceptance testing.

Pre-Action Fire Suppression Systems

• Verify installation of pre-action sprinkler systems as per approved shop drawings and specifications.
• Conduct hydrostatic pressure testing of piping networks.
• Test operation of:
• Deluge valves
• Pre-action valves
• Detection and releasing panels
• Solenoid valves
• Supervisory and pressure switches
• Verify sprinkler coverage, pipe supports, and system zoning.
• Test single-interlock and double-interlock pre-action systems.
• Simulate alarm and release sequences to validate system functionality.
• Coordinate with Fire Alarm System vendors for interface testing.

Gas Suppression Systems

• Commission clean agent systems such as:
• FM-200 (HFC-227ea)
• Novec 1230
• Inergen
• IG-541
• CO₂ systems (where applicable)
• Verify cylinder installation, pipework, nozzles, and discharge arrangements.
• Conduct enclosure integrity (door fan) tests where required.
• Verify operation of:
• Releasing control panels
• Manual release stations
• Abort switches
• Pressure switches
• Sounders and strobes
• Perform cause-and-effect testing for gas release sequences.
• Coordinate actual or simulated discharge testing as per project requirements.
• Ensure all safety interlocks and shutdown functions operate correctly.

Testing & Documentation

• Prepare commissioning checklists and test procedures.
• Record test results and maintain commissioning reports.
• Generate punch lists and monitor closure of commissioning observations.
• Prepare as-built documentation and handover packages.
• Provide customer training on system operation and maintenance.
• Support authority inspections and acceptance testing activities.

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with:
• NFPA 13
• NFPA 72
• NFPA 2001
• NFPA 12 (for CO₂ systems)
• FM Global requirements
• Local fire authority regulations
• Follow site safety procedures and permit-to-work requirements.
• Conduct risk assessments before testing and system activation activities.
