Job summary

Siemens is seeking a Site Engineer for Protection to test and commission Protection Relays and IEDs at MV/HV sites. You will configure protocols (Modbus, DNP3.0, IEC61850) and prepare commissioning documents, with significant travel to client sites.

You should have 3–6 years in protection systems, strong communication, and a hands-on approach to testing. Opportunity to train customers and present technical sessions, with travel up to 80–90%.

Qualifications

• Graduate or postgraduate in Electrical/Electronics with 3–6 years hands-on experience in protection systems.
• Strong communication skills in verbal and written English for customer interaction.
• Adaptive, eager to learn, innovative and disciplined with analytical ability.

Responsibilities

• Test & commission Protection Relays & Schemes for MV/HV applications (feeder, transformer, distance, generator, line differential, bus bar).
• Configure Protection IEDs: parametrization, interoperability with SCADA.
• Configure comm protocols (Modbus, DNP3.0, IEC61850, IEC60870-5-103); create data sets and tag signals.
• Retrofit & troubleshoot Protection IEDs; replace CRP as needed.
• Hands-on experience with secondary injection test kits (Omicron, Doble, Ponovo, ISA) and tests (OCC, sequencing, distance, differential).
• Prepare commissioning docs: SAT, Test Reports, schedules, MOM.
• Plan and deliver customer training courses and presentations.
• OS: Windows; serial/IP PC communications.
• Willingness to travel 80–90% as required.

Site engineering & commissioning - Protection

• Testing & commissioning of Protection Relays & Schemes for MV and HV application such as feeder, transformer, distance, generator, line differential, bus bar, etc.
• Protection IED: Configuration, Parametrization, Goosing, interoperability & integration with Scada.
• Configuration of communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3.0, IEC61850, IEC60870-5-103 & creation of Data set, RCB’s & Tagging of signals.
• Retrofitting & trouble shooting: Retrofitting of Protection IED, trouble shooting and Replacement of CRP.
• Hands on operating knowledge of secondary injection test kit like Omicron, doble, Ponovo, Isa etc. & Auto Testing Method like OCC, State Sequencing, Distance & Differential Characteristics Test.
• Preparation of Commissioning documents such as SAT, Test Reports, Commissioning schedule Plans & MOM.
• Planning and execution of training courses and customer presentations.
• OS : Windows, PC communication serial/ IP
• Willing to travel as the role demands minimum 80-90% travel.

Will be added advantages if you have

• Experience with protection & control equipment and solutions preferably from Alstom, SEL, GE, ABB,NR & SIFANG make IEDs.
• Knowledge on Process Bus Technology
• Basic knowledge on Networking and communication protocols.
