Job summary

Insight is seeking a Senior Database Administrator (SQL Server & Azure) to bridge traditional DBMS and modern cloud infrastructure in a hybrid Delhi NCR, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Gurugram setup. You will lead database migration projects, engineer resilient HA/DR solutions, and optimize database performance across on-prem and Azure SQL platforms.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of SQL Server DBA experience, 3+ years in Azure, and hands-on IaC with Terraform/Bicep/ARM, plus CI/CD workflows with Azure

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Microsoft SQL Server DBA experience (On-Premises SQL Server 2016-2022).
• 3+ years of hands-on experience managing Azure Cloud Infrastructure (VNets, Storage, Virtual Machines, Azure SQL DB, Azure SQL Managed Instances).
• Migration experience: migrating enterprise on-premises DB workloads to Azure Cloud infrastructure.
• Deep HA/DR expertise: Always On Availability Groups, Geo-Replication, FCIs, and Log Shipping.
• Automation & IaC: IaC code via Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates.
• DevOps: CI/CD pipelines for database deployments using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
• Security: TDE, Dynamic Data Masking, RBAC, and Azure Key Vault integration.
• Power BI experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, provision, and maintain Azure Cloud Infrastructure for database workloads (VNets, NSGs, Private Endpoints, Storage, VMs).
• Plan and execute migrations from on-premises SQL Server to Azure SQL Managed Instances/VMs/databases.
• Architect and implement HA/DR topologies (Always On, FCIs, Geo-Replication).
• Administer day-to-day SQL Server and Azure databases, backups, restores, and maintenance.
• Configure observability with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and SQL Insights; set automated alerts.
• Automate infrastructure and database provisioning with IaC, integrate CI/CD pipelines.

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) with extensive expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and core Azure Cloud Infrastructure. In this role, you will bridge traditional database management and modern cloud infrastructure operations. You will lead database migration projects, engineer resilient high-availability/disaster recovery (HA/DR) solutions, optimize database performance, and manage fundamental Azure infrastructure components (Virtual Networks, Compute/VMs, Storage Accounts, NSGs, and Azure Security). The ideal candidate possesses strong hands-on experience with SQL Server failover clusters, Azure Managed Instances, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and automated CI/CD pipeline deployments.

Key Responsibilities:

A. Cloud Infrastructure & Database Architecture

• Azure Cloud Infrastructure Management: Design, provision, and maintain underlying Azure Cloud Infrastructure supporting database workloads, including VNets, Subnets, Network Security Groups (NSGs), Private Endpoints, Azure Storage Accounts, and VM SKU sizing.
• Database Migration Execution: Plan and execute seamless migrations from on-premises SQL Server environments to Azure SQL Managed Instances, Azure SQL VMs, and Azure SQL Databases with minimal downtime.
• HA/DR Architecture: Architect and implement resilient HA/DR topologies using Always On Availability Groups, Failover Cluster Instances (FCI), Log Shipping, and Azure Geo-Replication across availability zones and regions.

B. Database Administration & Performance Tuning

• SQL Server Administration: Manage day-to-day administration, health checks, automated backups, restores, and maintenance for on-premises SQL Server and Azure database platforms.
• Performance Tuning & Optimization: Perform proactive query optimization, execution plan analysis, index defragmentation, deadlock troubleshooting, and system parameter tuning.
• Monitoring & Observability: Configure infrastructure-level and database-level observability using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics workspaces, SQL Insights, and automated alerts.

C. Security, Governance & Compliance

• Identity & Security Controls: Enforce database and cloud security policies using Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), Entra ID (Azure AD) integration, Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), Dynamic Data Masking (DDM), and Azure Key Vault.
• Governance & Audit Compliance: Maintain compliance with industry security frameworks, internal data governance policies, and vulnerability remediation protocols.

D. DevOps, IaC & Automation

• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Automate cloud infrastructure and database provisioning using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates.
• CI/CD Pipeline Integration: Integrate database schema changes and infrastructure deployment workflows into CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps / GitHub Actions).

What we’re looking for

• On-Premises SQL Administration: 5+ years of practical experience as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA (On-Premises SQL Server 2016-2022).
• Azure Infrastructure & Cloud DBA Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience managing Azure Cloud Infrastructure (VNets, Storage, Virtual Machines, Azure SQL DB, Azure SQL Managed Instances).
• Migration Expertise: Proven track record of migrating enterprise on-premises database workloads to Azure Cloud infrastructure.
• HA/DR Mastery: Deep expertise in HA/DR configurations: Always On Availability Groups, Geo-Replication, FCIs, and Log Shipping.
• Automation & IaC: Practical experience writing and deploying IaC code via Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates.
• DevOps Workflows: Working knowledge of CI/CD pipeline automation for database deployments using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
• Security Standards: Strong experience implementing TDE, Dynamic Data Masking, RBAC, and Azure Key Vault integration.
• Power BI: Good to have Power BI experience.
