Job summary

First Learning is seeking a dedicated custodian to perform building and grounds maintenance across our childcare facilities. You will follow the cleaning schedule, disinfect bathrooms, mop floors, wash windows, and restock supplies to ensure a clean, safe environment for both children and staff.

The role reports to Facilities Manager and requires reliability, attention to detail, and a willingness to work varied shifts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 1 year custodial experience.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Work may involve indoor/outdoor exposure.

Responsibilities

• Follow daily, weekly, monthly cleaning schedule.
• Collect and dispose of garbage; disinfect containers.
• Sanitize bathrooms daily with germicidal solution.
• Wet mop all floors daily in all areas.
• Wash windows inside and out as scheduled.
• Replenish paper towels, tissue, soap, and dispensers.
• Change light bulbs as needed.
• Report maintenance or safety hazards to Director.
• Perform other custodial duties as assigned.

Position Purpose

Performs custodial duties to include overall building and grounds maintenance and repair functions. The cleaner is accountable for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitary conditions and general upkeep of the facilities, both inside and outside.

Reports To

Facilities Manager

Essential Functions

Follows and completes the center's daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedule. These duties include:

• Collects and bags all garbage from the center, and disinfects and cleans garbage and trashcans
• Washes and sanitizes bathrooms fixtures daily with germicidal solution.
• Wet mops all washable floors daily including kitchen, bathroom, office and classroom.
• Washes bathroom, kitchen, classroom and other windows (inside and outside) and as scheduled or needed.
• Sweeps and clears entrance spaces
• Dusts, washes and sanitizes other surfaces as specified.
• Performs other cleaning duties as assigned.
• Refills paper towel, tissue, toilet paper and hand soap in all dispensers.
• Changes light bulbs, as needed.
• Reports the following to the Director, or designated staff person: Presence of animals, vermin or insects, need for cleaning supplies or equipment repair in advance, water leaks, and other maintenance needs, all other health and safety hazards noticed.
• Performs other custodial duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, preferred.

Experience

1 year of custodial experience. A combination of related training and experience may be substituted.

Physical/Mental Abilities

• Must be able to perform the job requirements for up to 170 children and adults in the building.
• Ability to remain standing and moving for extended periods of time.
• Indoors and outdoors in normal environment with some exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations and temperature changes.
• Mobility within the building including movement from floor to floor and outside the building.
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs. on a repetitive basis.
• May handle human body fluids and chemicals as part of the daily operational duties.
