Job Summary
This position will prepare, review, and present Civil, Structural, Architectural discipline CAPEX estimates for projects and proposals across a broad range of sectors, including Motorways, Large Infrastructure, Semiconductors, Manufacturing, Datacentres, Combined Cycle, Carbon Capture, Mining, Oil, Gas and Chemicals. The role is responsible for developing all class of estimates (Conceptual to Execute), performing material and labor cost analysis, maintaining historical databases, and enhancing department procedures. It supports estimate reporting and reviews and executes other simultaneous tasks within broadly defined parameters for the estimating department.
Major Responsibilities
- Prepare CAPEX CSA discipline cost estimates for all classes of estimates from Conceptual to Execute.
- Perform quantity take-offs for a discipline or commodity specialty using defined documents; collect, reconcile, and verify data for summary comparisons.
- Understand technical processes, engineering drawings, quantity determinations, and mathematical and financial records.
- Collaborate with other disciplines and functions to collect all necessary data on scope and quantities to prepare accurate estimates in specialty discipline areas.
- Produce cost estimates using a crew-based approach, including formation of crews from multiple crafts.
- Prepare estimate basis documentation capturing assumptions, rationale, scope inclusions, and exclusions for specific contributions.
- Prepare estimate summaries and presentations for all reviews: Project Reviews, Senior Management or Client Estimate reviews.
- Ensure that estimates are in line with market trends and pricing.
- Research, develop, and maintain costs, quantities, ratios, and metrics of the historical cost databases pertaining to specific sections; extract non‑standard data and formulate it into comparative summary formats for analysis.
- Input cost data into the historical cost databases; file completed estimates with all relevant back‑up documentation, yielding an easy‑to‑follow paper trail.
- Manage variations, trends, and changes to the base estimate and ensure that implications of changes are evaluated before finalizing the solution.
- Assist in enhancements for estimating standards and procedures.
Education And Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Engineering degree and 10+ years of industry experience with 3+ years on job site exposure toward CSA cost estimates.
- Experience in parametric estimating techniques.
- Proficiency in any industry‑leading cost estimating software.
- Understanding of Greenfield, Modular, and Brownfield execution scopes.
- Basic knowledge and experience with EPC estimating methods, processes, and procedures, including the full range of estimate classification levels.
- Effective use of metrics to provide reasonableness checks.
- Knowledge of construction methods and construction practices.
Required Knowledge And Skills
- Bachelor’s Engineering degree with experience in the latest estimating software.
- CAPEX EPC/EPCM estimating experience in Motorways, Large Infrastructure, Semiconductors, Manufacturing, Datacentres, Combined Cycle, Carbon Capture, Mining, Oil, Gas and Chemicals.
- Familiarity with commercial terms and conditions (contractor relationships, currency exchange, inflation, insurance, escalation, etc.) and market pricing in the area of specialization.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) is required.
- Excellent communication skills to connect with others in a project team.
