Job summary

Thompsons Hr Consulting seeks a Civil Construction Engineer to supervise civil construction activities for power transmission projects, including transmission line foundations, substations, and related infrastructure. You will ensure safety, quality, and on-schedule delivery while coordinating with civil, electrical, and commissioning teams.

The role requires 10-15 years of experience in civil construction, with EPC/PMC environments preferred, and a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional engineering membership or certification is desirable.
  • 10-15 years of experience in civil construction of power transmission, substation, utility, or infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise civil construction activities related to transmission lines, substations, switchyards, control buildings, and associated infrastructure.
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and project procedures.
  • Conduct daily site inspections to verify construction quality, workmanship, safety compliance, and progress.
  • Review and monitor excavation, foundation construction, concrete placement, backfilling, earthworks, grading, and drainage works.
  • Verify workfront readiness, including availability of approved drawings, materials, permits, equipment, and manpower.
  • Coordinate interfaces between civil, electrical, transmission line, and commissioning teams.
  • Monitor tower foundation works, equipment foundations, cable trenches, roads, drainage systems, and utility installations.
  • Ensure construction activities comply with project schedules and milestone requirements.
  • Identify construction constraints, site issues, and productivity challenges and recommend corrective actions.
  • Raise, monitor, and support closure of NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports) and corrective actions.
  • Track punch-list items and ensure timely closure prior to project handover.
  • Witness inspections and testing activities related to civil works and materials.
  • Ensure compliance with QA/QC requirements, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and applicable codes and standards.
  • Coordinate with survey, quality, HSE, engineering, procurement, and contractor teams to resolve site issues.
  • Monitor contractor resource deployment, productivity, and construction progress.
  • Participate in site coordination meetings and provide progress updates.
  • Ensure strict adherence to project HSE requirements and industry safety practices.
  • Support mechanical completion, energization readiness, and project handover activities.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports highlighting achievements, risks, delays, and recovery actions.

Civil Construction Engineer
Job Purpose

The Civil Construction Engineer is responsible for supervising and coordinating civil construction activities associated with power transmission projects, including transmission line foundations, substations, access roads, drainage systems, control buildings, and associated infrastructure. The role ensures works are executed safely, on schedule, within quality requirements, and in compliance with project specifications and applicable standards.
