Job summary

SYSTRA India is seeking a Chief Track Expert for high-speed rail projects. You will lead design review, QA/QC, and interface management across track, civil, signaling, and power systems.

The role requires extensive international exposure and senior deployment on MRTS/Regional/High Speed Rail projects. The candidate should have at least 20 years post-qualification experience in rail-based passenger transit, with a track record as Chief Track Expert and ballast-less track design/installation.

Qualifications

• 20 years post-qualification experience in rail-based passenger transit.
• Experience as Chief Track Expert or equivalent.
• 10 years' experience in design or installation of ballast-less track systems (MRTS/Regional High Speed).
• Experience as Chief Track Expert for full-time deployment of at least 2 years.
• International experience: 3+ years on 160 kmph+ projects in developed countries.
• Must have experience as personnel in a General Consultant / PMC / Employer's personnel on rail-based projects.

Responsibilities

• Technical Approval and Design Review of permanent way designs, track alignments and specs.
• Quality Assurance and Construction Supervision of track works.
• Interface Management with civil, signaling and power systems.
• Ensure compliance with national codes and project specs for safety and maintainability.
• Develop testing and commissioning strategy for track and certify final operation.
• Provide guidance to main track contractors and certify progress payments.

Currently, we are bidding for Semi High Speed Rail projects across India. The position of Chief Track is the key position in these BIDs.

Missions/Main Duties

• Technical Approval and Design Review: Lead the review and final approval of all permanent way designs, track alignments, geometry, and component specifications (rails, sleepers, fastenings) to ensure they meet the stringent high-speed performance, safety, and operational standards.
• Quality Control and Construction Supervision: Establish and enforce rigorous Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) protocols for all track installation activities, including earthworks, ballast laying, welding, stressing, and geometry correction.
• Interface Management: Directly manage the technical interface between track works and other critical systems (e.g., Civil structures like bridges and tunnels, Signaling systems, and OHE/Power systems) to ensure seamless and safe integration.
• Ensure absolute compliance of the track system with national railway codes, international best practices, and project-specific technical specifications to guarantee safety and long‑term maintainability.
• Develop and oversee the testing and commissioning strategy for the track, including the use of specialized track recording cars and geometry measurement equipment, to secure final certification for high-speed operation.
• Provide expert technical guidance and direction to the main track contractors, resolving complex field issues, approving methodologies, and certifying progress payments based on verified quality and adherence to design.

Profile/Skills

• Qualification: Graduate in Engineering or equivalent with working knowledge of reading, writing and speaking in English [additional marks for PG in Engineering or equivalent]
• Minimum Experience: 20 years post minimum qualification in any Rail based Passenger Transit system [additional marks for more experience in any Rail based Passenger Transit system*]
• Relevant Experience: 10 years' experience for Design or Installation of Ballast‑less Track system including Track Alignment for MRTS /Regional Rail /High Speed Rail as Chief Track Expert or equivalent position [additional marks for more experience; experience in position one level below allowed with less weightage]
• Eligible Assignment**(see below): Must have experience of 1 Eligible Assignment as Chief Track Expert or equivalent position for full‑time continuous deployment of not less than 2 years [additional marks for more Eligible Assignments; less weightage for position one level below]
• International Experience: Minimum 3 years' experience on projects for Rail based Passenger Transit system with operational speed of 160 kmph or more in Developed country(s) as defined in latest list of Developed countries as per Department of Economics and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat (UN-DESA)/World Bank - High Income Economies.
• Rail-based Passenger Transit System shall mean
• High Speed Transit System / Regional Rail Transit System (with operational speed of 160kmh and above) OR
• Urban/Suburban/Intercity/Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) [excluding LRT with design PHPDT less than 20000/Tram/Monorail Systems]
• Shall mean experience of working as a personnel of General Consultant / Project Management Consultant / Employer's Personnel in a work / project in a Rail based

Passenger Transit System with operational speed of 160 kmph or more comprising:

• Construction of Civil structures (at-grade/elevated/underground) AND
• Installation of Systems (Track, Rolling Stock, Traction & Power Supply, Signalling)

Including Detailed Design or Proof checking of designs; Bid Process Management; Project and Interface Management; Construction Supervision and System Installations and Testing & Commissioning.
