Job summary

MagicBI.ai seeks a Chief Technology Officer to join the founding team in Mumbai. You will own the end-to-end technical direction, partner with the CEO and COO on what we build and how we build it, and lead the engineering effort from architecture to delivery.

You will hire, mentor, and grow a small team, make build-versus-buy decisions, ensure security and reliability, and shape the stack for AI-enabled analytics as we scale.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building software with focus on distributed systems or data infrastructure.
• Deep expertise in Python and/or Golang, with production experience on cloud platforms (GCP/AWS).
• Hands-on architecting LLM-based applications—agent orchestration, retrieval and evaluation.
• Strong grounding in data platforms: warehouses, pipelines, semantic and metrics layers.
• Proven ability to hire, mentor and lead an engineering team, even in small setups.

Who Are You?

You have built systems that other engineers depend on, and you have led the people who built them. You have been the person who decided what the architecture would be, defended that decision, and lived with the consequences.

You are not looking for a defined scope. You want to own the technical direction of a company at the point where that direction is still being set, and you want equity that reflects it.

We're looking for a Chief Technology Officer to join the founding team at MagicBI — partnering directly with the CEO and COO on what we build, how we build it, and who builds it with us.

What We Need?

• 10+ years building software, with meaningful time spent on distributed systems or data infrastructure.
• Depth in Python and/or Golang, and production experience on GCP or AWS.
• Hands-on experience architecting LLM-based applications — agent orchestration, retrieval, and evaluation — not just consuming an API.
• Strong grounding in data platforms: warehouses, pipelines, semantic and metrics layers.
• A track record of hiring, mentoring and leading an engineering team, however small.
• Judgement about what not to build, and the ability to explain that judgement to non-engineers.
• Prior startup or 0→1 experience, ideally somewhere without a playbook.

What You'll Do?

• Own the end-to-end technical architecture of the platform, and the trade-offs behind it.
• Set the standard for how AI is used in the product — where it reasons, and where it must never be trusted to compute.
• Build, hire and lead the engineering team, and set the bar for what good looks like here.
• Make the build-versus-buy calls, choose the stack, and own the consequences.
• Own security, reliability and scale as we move from early customers to production load.
• Partner with the CEO and COO on roadmap, technical due diligence and investor conversations.
• Stay close to the code. This is a founding role, not a management layer.
