Job summary

Qualifications

  • Diploma/B.Sc./B.Tech in chemical field; 4+ years of related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review cleaning, coating, and final cleaning operations; coordinate rework and NCMRs.
  • Set plating parameters and run automated plating recipes; support silver plating and housing processes.
  • Perform routine chemical analysis of baths; maintain IQS/MES records and calibration solutions.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and chemical issues; document findings and implement corrective actions.
  • Train operators on processes and SOPs; ensure safety and process competency.
  • Maintain and calibrate lab and testing equipment; ensure 6S and housekeeping standards.
  • Monitor process compliance, quality, and batch records; support CAPA and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare investigation reports and action plans; update SOPs and process documentation.

Job description

Summary Purpose of the Role: The Chemical Technician is responsible for supporting chemical processing operations, coating activities, final cleaning, glass cleaning, bath analysis, troubleshooting, operator training, process compliance, documentation, and safety management. The technician ensures chemical processes operate efficiently, product quality requirements are met, and all laboratory and production activities comply with safety and operational standards.

Job Description Key Responsibilities
  • 1. Chemical Cleaning Operations Review and disposition Non-Conformance Material Reports (NCMRs). Perform or coordinate rework activities. Investigate root causes of defects and process failures. Review work orders for correct material processing requirements. Prioritize and allocate work orders to operators. Determine electropolishing and electro cleaning process parameters. Create, modify, and upload cleaning recipes for automated systems. Monitor process compliance and product quality. Troubleshoot chemical, mechanical, and material-related issues. Prepare investigation reports and implement corrective actions.
  • 2. Coating and Plating Operations Review coating-related NCMRs and coordinate rework activities. Verify plating processes and work order requirements. Determine plating parameters, current density, and processing times. Configure automated plating recipes and lead-coating parameters. Prepare and mix plating solutions and specialty chemical baths. Support silver plating, etching, and housing plating processes. Troubleshoot coating defects and process deviations. Generate corrective action and process improvement reports.
  • 3. Final Cleaning Operations Review final cleaning process requirements. Investigate contamination-related issues. Coordinate cleaning rework activities. Verify cleaning effectiveness and process compliance. Support troubleshooting of cleaning equipment and chemicals. Document findings and recommend corrective actions.
  • 4. Glass Cleaning Operations Support glass cleaning and nitriding processes. Determine required process parameters. Investigate and resolve process failures. Review production requirements and assign work priorities. Maintain process quality standards. Prepare investigation and improvement reports.
  • 5. Chemical Bath Analysis & Laboratory Activities Perform routine chemical analysis of plating and cleaning baths. Conduct titration, specific gravity, FTIR, and AES analysis. Maintain laboratory equipment and consumables. Prepare chemical standards, indicators, and calibration solutions. Record analytical results in IQS/MES systems. Calculate and recommend bath chemical additions. Monitor bath chemistry and process stability. Sample and analyze chemical baths according to schedules. Investigate unknown chemical contaminants. Maintain laboratory housekeeping and 6S standards.
  • 6. Equipment Maintenance & Calibration Maintain and calibrate: XRF Equipment Profilometers FTIR Systems AES Equipment Ultrasonic Testing Equipment Develop automated testing methods when required. Create and maintain instrument files and calibration records. Verify equipment performance and compliance.
  • 7. Process Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement Investigate process deviations and quality issues. Analyze chemical interactions and material compatibility. Identify equipment-related failures. Evaluate process performance and recommend improvements. Support corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). Generate technical reports and documentation.
  • 8. Operator Training & Qualification Become certified on all chemical processes within the department. Train operators on production processes and equipment. Certify operators for process competency. Provide technical support and guidance to operators. Conduct work instruction and SOP training.
  • 9. Safety & Compliance Ensure proper use of PPE at all times. Promote safe chemical handling practices. Monitor compliance with EHS requirements. Verify safe storage and segregation of chemicals. Support spill response and incident investigations. Ensure compliance with company safety procedures and chemical regulations.
  • 10. Documentation & Record Management Maintain production and laboratory records. Update bath analysis logs and process reports. Record process parameters in IQS/MES systems. Document chemical additions and process changes. Prepare NCMR investigation reports. Maintain calibration and training records. Review and update SOPs, work instructions, and process documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

Diploma/B.Sc./B.Tech in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, or related field. 4+ years of experience in chemical processing, electroplating, surface treatment, or manufacturing operations. Knowledge of FTIR, AES, XRF, titration, and laboratory analysis techniques. Familiarity with ISO, quality systems, and chemical process controls.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND CERTIFICATIONS

Minimum Required Skills and Knowledge Proficient in a production skill area. Strong teaming skills. Basic understanding of material logistics. Basic understanding of several business systems/concepts such as Demand Flow, Statistical Process Control, Process Documentation, Empowerment, Six Sigma methods, Quality and/or Cost Improvement. Required Certifications and Training Obtains and completes LMS training plan specific to assigned responsibility. Experience Level with Business Tools Familiar with business tools such as: E-mail, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with SAP or equivalent ERP product and productivity software desired.
