Job summary

bigbasket is seeking an experienced Category Buyer to oversee procurement across its stores. You will identify products based on customer demand, trends, and store requirements, coordinating with suppliers on pricing, availability, and delivery terms.

You will plan assortments, monitor stock, analyze sales and margins, and drive smarter buying decisions with cross-functional teams. Strong negotiation, Excel skills, and a data-driven mindset are essential.

Responsibilities

• Manage category buying and procurement.
• Identify products based on customer demand, sales trends, store requirements, and category performance.
• Coordinate with suppliers/vendors for pricing, availability, MOQ, payment terms, and delivery schedules.
• Negotiate purchase prices, margins, trade schemes, discounts, and commercial terms.
• Plan and maintain the product assortment across stores.
• Monitor inventory levels, stock availability, aging, and replenishment.
• Analyze sales, margins, sell-through, and inventory data to improve buying decisions.
• Work with operations, inventory, category, finance, and supply-chain teams to ensure smooth product availability.
• Track new product launches, promotions, seasonal demand, and competitor pricing.
• Maintain vendor relationships and resolve supply, quality, pricing, and delivery issues.
• Prepare and analyze MIS/reports related to procurement, sales, margins, and inventory.
• Ensure products are procured within the required cost, quality, and service-level targets.
