Job summary

Maersk Line in Mumbai seeks qualified seafarers for container vessels. You will support the Master and officers, perform on-board tasks safely, and ensure compliance with company procedures and environmental standards.

You will assist in planning rest hours, handle basic repairs, train deck crew, and maintain stock in deck and paint stores while contributing to efficiency improvements across the vessel.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 12 months service on containers foreign going ships.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the Company's policy and follow Master's and Officers' instructions.
  • Perform tasks safely and efficiently per relevant legislation and Company procedures.
  • Assist the Master, Chief Engineer or deputies with ordering spares as needed.
  • Keep informed the Chief Officer, vessel management and other functions on board to coordinate activities.
  • Ensure work and rest hour planning for ABs and OSs and comply with requirements.
  • Report any unsafe acts or conditions and use STOP WORK when needed.
  • Participate in safety meetings, drills, and provide feedback for safety and operations.
  • Have knowledge of surface treatment and paint application/mixing on board.
  • Oversee stock and housekeeping of paint locker, Bosun store and Deck store.
  • Report low stock levels to the Chief Officer in good time.
  • Be familiar with equipment on board and perform basic troubleshooting/repairs.
  • Train/develop deck crew in equipment use, ropework, seamanship, and rest-hours recording.
  • Maintain housekeeping of deck areas under the Chief Officer’s supervision.
  • Assist in implementing Garbage management and segregation of garbage.
  • Assist in planning and executing maintenance tasks identified by the Chief Officer.
  • Under Master or Chief Officer directives, take charge of mooring/anchor stations.
  • Assist Engine department as required under supervision of Chief Engineer/Second Engineer.
  • Contribute to People Performance Management of deck ratings and be a role model for cultural transformation.

Key responsibilities
  • Have knowledge of and adhere to the Company's policy
  • Perform all tasks in a safe and efficient manner following the Master's, Chief Officers and other Officers instructions, relevant legislation, and Company procedures.
  • Assist the Master, Chief Engineer or their deputies with ordering spares whenever needed
  • Keep the Chief Officer, vessel management and other functions on board informed, to co-ordinate and control activities, maximise safety, quality, and environmental protection
  • Ensure work and rest hour planning for all AB’s and OS’s is done regularly and requirements are complied with.
  • Bring any challenges in rest hour compliance to the attention of Chief Officer / Officer of the Watch (OOW)
  • Report any unsafe acts or unsafe conditions including exercising STOP WORK
  • Participate actively in safety meetings, post drill briefings and other meetings and provide feedback for overall improvement of the safety, compliance, and operational aspects
  • Have thorough knowledge of surface treatment and paint application/mixing on board a vessel.
  • Oversee the stock and housekeeping of the paint locker, Bosun store and Deck store, including consumables as directed by the Chief Officer.
  • Items falling low on stock to be reported to the Chief Officer in good time.
  • Be familiar with the equipment used on board and be capable of carrying out basic troubleshooting and repairs on such equipment, while seeking assistance from the Chief Engineer or Chief Officer as required.
  • Train or assist in training the deck crew. This includes (but not limited to) use of various equipment on board (cranes, winches, power tools etc.), ropework, customary seamanship, proper registration of rest hours and use of risk assessment tools.
  • Overall responsible for the housekeeping of the deck areas under the authority of the Chief Officer
  • Responsible for implementation of Garbage management plan, segregation of garbage and cleanliness of garbage room.
  • Assist in planning and execution of maintenance tasks as identified by the Chief Officer
  • Under direct instructions of the Master or Chief Officer, take charge of mooring / anchor stations
  • Assist in the Engine department as required, under the supervision of the Chief Engineer or Second Engineer
  • Contribute to the People Performance Management of the deck ratings.
  • Be a role model to the ratings on board when it comes to cultural transformation
