Job Description

WSP is looking for a highly skilled and experienced BIM Technician – Civils to support the design and delivery of Lineside Rail Infrastructure Projects in the UK‑GCC T&I Team.

Responsibilities

• Proven ability to produce accurate 2D rail‑civils drawings to UK standards.
• Experience developing and checking 2D and 3D models for multidisciplinary rail projects.
• Familiar with applying CAD QA processes, CRA‑V practices and structured drawing checks.
• Able to work from survey data, topographical information and other discipline inputs.
• Work through full CAD lifecycle (site data – model – drawing – QA).
• Capable of creating 3D MicroStation models (track slab, walkways, structural elements).
• Generate long sections, cross sections and cut‑through views to show design changes, ground variation and asset interfaces.
• Clash detection awareness – identify clashes visually within the 3D environment (e.g., structures vs gauge, walkway vs equipment zones, civils vs signalling) and support coordinated design reviews.
• Support BIM‑aligned workflows, including multidisciplinary model coordination.
• Comfortable using LiDAR / point cloud data to inform accurate 3D modelling.
• Confident navigating ProjectWise, including check‑in/out, version control and workflow management – correct assurance process from Drawer-Designer-Checker-Approver and setting up Document Sets.
• Ensure compliance with naming conventions, metadata requirements and document control processes.
• Issue and manage CAD models and drawings within ProjectWise for UK and international rail projects.
• Base understanding of rail‑civils requirements, including key design principles such as gauges, clearances, heights, offsets, access/maintainability needs, structural constraints, and how these influence lineside civils, stations, depots and level crossing design.
• Understand the process of Technical Queries, how they are raised and what input from CAD would be required (sketches, checks, dimensions etc).
• Coordinate with multi‑discipline teams like MEP, Architectural, E&P, Telecoms, etc.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Diploma in Civil Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
• 5–8 years’ experience in rail infrastructure.
• Current competencies with relevant rail authorities (e.g., Network Rail, London Underground).
• Ability to work on 3D MicroStation, AECOsim / OpenBuilding Designer, AutoCAD, Revit in adherence to defined CAD & BIM standards.
• Perform clash detection using Navisworks / iTwin.
• Build strong working relationships.
• Work well in a team environment and be a self‑starter capable of working unsupervised.

Mandatory Skills

• Station platform designs, level crossings, ancillary civils, UTX, URX.

Desirable Skills

• Software experience in MicroStation, AecoSim, AutoCAD, ProjectWise, iTwin, Open Rail.
