Job summary

WSP India is seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineer – Rail Civils to lead the design and delivery of lineside civil works across the project lifecycle, from feasibility to AFC. You will coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and ensure compliance with railway standards.

The role requires 8–12 years of rail infrastructure experience, including familiarity with UK rail projects, BIM workflows, and leading civils work packages while mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Master’s in Structural Engineering.
  • 8–12 years’ experience in rail infrastructure.
  • Competency with relevant rail authorities (e.g. Network Rail, TfL, etc.).
  • Progress toward or hold professional accreditation (ICE/IEng/CEng or equivalent).
  • Experience on UK rail projects from feasibility to detailed design.
  • Ability to lead civils work packages and guide junior engineers.
  • Familiarity with BIM/delivery workflows and data environments.

Job description

WSP is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Engineer – Rail Civils Team who can lead the projects.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and delivery of lineside civil works across GRIP / PACE / staged design lifecycle, from feasibility to AFC.
  • Prepare and review designs for lineside infrastructure, including:
  • Station platforms and foundations
  • Cable routes, troughing, and service routes
  • UTX / URX crossings
  • Level crossings designs
  • Ancillary civils (walkways, fencing, signage, drainage, hardstanding’s)
  • Undertake technical checking and design assurance of civils outputs, ensuring safety-in-design and constructability.
  • Produce compliant drawings, specifications, calculations, and design reports in accordance with Network Rail / TfL / LU standards and project requirements.
  • Attend and contribute to design reviews, IDC/IDR meetings, progress meetings, and multidisciplinary coordination meetings.
  • Ensure all designs comply with railway standards, engineering assurance processes, and CDM requirements.
  • Identify and manage interfaces with track, signalling, E&P, S&T, drainage, utilities, MEP etc. to resolve clashes and constructability issues.
  • Responsible for leading technicians / BIM Modellers in developing ancillary design works, level crossing ground plans, cable trough management systems, designing lineside structures and associated deliverables.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree Civil / Master’s in Structural Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
  • 8 - 12 years’ experience in rail infrastructure.
  • Current competencies with relevant rail authorities (e.g. Network Rail, London Underground, TfL, etc.).
  • Working towards or holding professional engineering accreditation (e.g. ICE/IEng/CEng or equivalent), depending on region and experience.
  • Proven experience working on UK rail projects from feasibility to detailed design stage.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Comfortable acting as a technical lead for civils work packages, supporting Principals and Associates while guiding junior engineers.
  • Familiarity with BIM / digital delivery workflows, model coordination, and structured data environments as part of UK rail infrastructure projects.
Mandatory Skills
  • Station platform designs, level crossings, ancillary civils, UTX, URX, walkways, retaining wall designs.
Desirable Skills
  • Software experience in TEDDS, SAM, StaadPro.
  • Hands on experience in preparing DRA document, technical reports, design risk management.
