Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a seasoned Plumbing & Fire Protection Engineer in Bengaluru to lead design activities for large-scale building services projects. You will deliver PHE and fire protection systems compliant with Canada, UK, European, ME standards and BIM workflows.

You will collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, perform hydraulic calculations using HydraCALC/SprinkCALC/HASS, review Navisworks, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring timely, within-budget delivery and safety

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with plumbing and fire protection design experience.
• Working towards professional registration (PEng, CEng or IEng) or pursuing chartership.
• Proficient in Revit and plumbing/FPS design; hydraulic calculation software such as HydraCALC, SprinkCALC, HASS.
• 10–13 years of experience as a Plumbing and Fire engineer in building services.
• Knowledge of BS/NFC/NPC/LEED/NFPA/FM guidelines, CIBSE, UPC, IBC, IPC and IOP.
• Experience coordinating with multiple disciplines and large-scale infrastructure projects.
• Hands-on experience preparing Revit 3D models and reviewing Navisworks.

Responsibilities

• Check designs and ensure deliverables meet time and budget.
• Coordinate with system engineers and suppliers, incorporating requirements.
• Coordinate with Architecture, Civil, MEP, Structural for integrated design.

Overview

Experienced in undertaking PHE (Plumbing), Fire Protection, and associated building services design in accordance with local and international standards, including Canada, Middle East (ME), and UK regions. Well-versed in applying Canada, British, European, ME, and AtkinsRéalis standards across diverse project types.
Proficient in designing a wide range of plumbing systems such as domestic cold and hot water services, sanitary and vent systems, and underground drainage networks. Possesses strong technical knowledge of wet and dry fire protection systems, covering both design fundamentals and operational requirements.
Skilled in the design of Medical Gas and LPG systems with a strong focus on safety compliance and engineering best practices. Experienced in conducting peer reviews for fire protection system designs and preparing detailed technical review reports.

Your role

• Undertake PHE (Plumbing) and Fire Protection system design to local and international standards, including Canada, Middle East (ME), UK region.
• Understand and apply Canada / British / European, ME and AtkinsRéalis standards.
• Undertake design of a variety of Plumbing design elements i.e. Domestic cold and hot water services, Sanitary and Vent, underground drainage.
• Thorough understanding of wet and dry fire protection systems, including their design principles and operational requirements.
• Proficient in Medical Gas and LPG systems, with expertise in design principles and adherence to safety standards.
• Conducting peer reviews of fire protection system design and producing technical review reports.
• Responsible for completion of projects within his/her team to time and cost.
• Assist the Team leader/ Senior Engineer / Engineers in presenting design solutions in meeting with clients and contractors.
• Check own PHE/Plumbing designs deliverables and able to check design prepared within own team and other groups within area of expertise.
• Realistically estimate pricing associated with projects within their area of expertise.
• Undertake liaison with System engineers, third parties and specialist system suppliers and incorporate their requirements in the detail design.
• Coordinate with all other disciplines and improve inter-discipline working with other disciplines such as Architecture, Civil, MEP and Structural.

About you

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering , with prior experience in plumbing / Fire protection design within a design consultancy environment.
• Working towards Professional registration (P Eng, C Eng or IEng) or be able to prove progression towards Chartership.
• Should be capable of handling Revit and Plumbing/FPS design concurrently, with demonstrated proficiency in hydraulic calculation software such as HydraCALC, SprinkCALC, HASS, and similar tools.
• Must have thorough knowledge of Plumbing design calculations, including water supply, drainage, and pump sizing as per relevant codes and standards.
• Relevant and appropriate experience of 10 to 13 years as a Plumbing and Fire engineer within building services.
• Wider Knowledge on other disciplines is desirable.
• Demonstrate knowledge and experience of the use of BS codes, NFC, NPC, LEED, NFPA, FM global guidelines, CIBSE, UPC, IBC, IPC and IOP
• Experience of working in Multi-D environment and good understanding of co-ordination and interfaces with other disciplines.
• Experience of large-scale infrastructure projects.
• Be a competent user of IT tools in particular Word, Excel, Outlook and Industry design tools.
• Authors technical reports of acceptable technical and presentational quality. Able to present their work on the project presentations and meetings.
• Able to deliver work and integrate with larger project teams.
• Good report writing skills, experience of making presentations to and attending meetings with clients is essential.
• Proactive and Member of IOP, IET or CIBSE with PEng , CEng or IEng status or working towards would be preferred.
• Relevant and appropriate experience as a designer within building services.
• You will be a competent designer to BS, NFC, NPC, IPC, CIBSE and various NFPA standards.
• You should have hands‑on experience in preparing Revit 3D models, review Navisworks files and managing design delivery using BIM expertise.
• Demonstrates the necessary level of competence and responsibility according to the grade.
• You will manage productivity and quality of your deliverables.
• Maintains harmony and a productive atmosphere by being open about the work activities and project status.
• Good command of the English language and effective communication skills, both written and verbal. Knowledge of French is beneficial, and willingness to undertake French language training as per business requirements.
