Commvault is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Clumio team in Bengaluru. You will design, build, and operate backend services powering control planes, backups, and user-access management for a cloud-native data protection platform.

You\'ll own features from implementation to production, collaborate with product and QA, and contribute to API design while writing production-grade code and participating in on-call duties.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Go, Python, Java, or Rust).
• Experience building and operating production systems, diagnosing issues and improving implementations.

The Opportunity

We have an outstanding career opportunity for Backend- Senior Engineer at Bangalore location. As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Clumio team, you are a key contributor to the backend systems that power the control and management plane of the cloud-native data protection platform. Reporting to an Engineering Director, this role emphasizes strong hands‑on engineering, ownership of backend components, and collaboration across functions to deliver reliable production systems.

About the Team

The Clumio Backend team designs, builds, and operates core backend systems that support Clumio's cloud-native data protection platform. For many customers, data protection is not a "nice-to-have" capability, but a foundational requirement driven by compliance, audit, and security mandates. In these environments, recovery performance, cost efficiency, strong governance, and reliable operation at scale are critical differentiators. Built on a cloud-native architecture, the Backend team develops shared services and well‑defined interfaces that abstract complexity from underlying systems and enable consistent, reliable, and scalable interactions across the platform. This work supports the continued evolution of the platform, enabling new capabilities, data sources, and workflows to be added efficiently and safely.

What you’ll do…

• You design, build, and operate backend services that support core platform capabilities such as control planes, user-access management, and backup workflows.
• You take ownership of features or components, driving them from implementation through production operation, and continuously improve them based on real-world usage, operational signals, and customer feedback.
• You contribute to service design and API development, making sound technical trade-offs that balance correctness, scalability, cost, and maintainability under evolving requirements.
• You spend most of your time writing and reviewing production‑quality code, diagnosing and resolving complex backend issues, and participating in on‑call and operational responsibilities.
• You work closely with Product, quality assurance, customer‑facing, and other teams to clarify requirements, ensure production readiness, and support smooth feature delivery.
• Through code quality, design contributions, and mentorship of junior engineers, you help reinforce best practices and strengthen the reliability and scalability of the backend platform.

Who you are…

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, including ownership of features or components from implementation through production operation.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Go (Preferred), Python, Java, or Rust.
• Experience building and operating non‑trivial production systems, including diagnosing issues and improving implementations based on real‑world behavior.
• Ability to translate loosely defined requirements into correct, maintainable technical solutions and make sound trade-offs under uncertainty.
• Highly collaborative and self‑driven, with a strong sense of shared ownership, and the ability to work effectively with cross‑functional and geographically distributed teams, fostering open communication and alignment across time zones.
• Security and SaaS experience strongly preferred.
