Job summary

NIQ is seeking a Software Engineer to own end-to-end backend architectures, web scraping pipelines, and core web apps based in Pune/Chennai. The role blends data extraction with robust backend development using Python and PHP, with PostgreSQL as the data store.

A fast-paced environment and cross-functional collaboration are emphasized. You will design scalable microservices, implement RESTful APIs, and optimize data pipelines while leveraging containerization and cloud tooling if available.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Deep web scraping proficiency with Python tools (Scrapy, BeautifulSoup, LXML, Requests).
• Hands-on browser automation with Selenium, Playwright, or Pyppeteer.
• PHP development with CodeIgniter framework.
• PostgreSQL database design, queries, and performance tuning.
• Experience designing microservices and RESTful APIs.
• Strong ownership and ability to deliver end-to-end projects.
• Excellent collaboration and communication across remote and local teams.
• Nice to have cloud & DevOps experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and CI/CD.
• Containerization with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Version control with Git, logging/observability tools, and Jira.

You will balance data extraction engineering with robust backend development usingPython,PHPand PostgreSQL. Responsibilities

Data Extraction & Web Scraping

• Build scalable web crawlersto harvest structured and unstructured web data using custom and enterprise frameworks.
• Manage dynamic content extractionusing advanced browser automation tools for JavaScript-heavy, AJAX, and infinite-scroll sites.
• Optimizecrawling performancethrough concurrent execution, asynchronous programming, and container multi-threading.

Backend & Application Engineering

• Design, develop, andmaintainscalable backend microservices using Python and PHP.
• Build web applicationsand custom internal tools using the PHP CodeIgniter framework.
• DesignPythonbasedRESTful APIsto ensure seamless data integration across cross-functional platforms.

Database Management & Operations

• Write efficient, optimized SQL queriesand manage schema design within PostgreSQL.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolvecomplex production issues tomaintainsystem stability.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teamsincluding Product, QA, DevOps, and other engineering units.

• Must HaveExperience: 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Web Scraping: Deepproficiencywith Python parsing packages (Scrapy,BeautifulSoup, LXML, Requests).
• Browser Automation: Hands-on experience handling browser execution viaSelenium, Playwright, orPyppeteer.
• PHP: Strong development experience in PHP and the CodeIgniter framework.
• Database: Solid understanding ofPostgreSQLdatabase schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
• Architecture:Strong foundationin designingMicroservicesand building robustRESTful APIs.
• Soft Skills:Ownership: Ability to take a project from concept to delivery independently.
