Job summary

PayPay India is seeking a Backend engineer to work on our payment system, delivering the best payment experience for customers.

Responsibilities include designing large-scale systems, leveraging infrastructure for scale, and developing tools while contributing to open source where possible. A strong foundation in Java or alternative languages and knowledge of distributed systems are required, with preference for experience in payments and cloud ecosystems.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience using Java in a professional setting; or strong skills in Scala, Python or Go.
• Willingness to learn additional languages as needed.
• Experience with NoSQL databases and distributed caching.
• Solid fundamentals in data structures, algorithms and OOP.
• Strong understanding of concurrency and distributed computing.
• Degree in CS/CE or 5+ years of SaaS platform development experience.
• Business proficiency in English or Japanese.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of Experience in using Java under professional environment, or if you are non-Java user, excellent skills in generalized programming languages, such as Scala, Python and Go.
• Interest and ability to learn other coding languages as needed.
• Experience with NoSQL databases and distributed cache.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms and object oriented programming.
• In-depth understanding of concurrency and distributed computing.
• Degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science or 5+ years equivalent experience in SaaS platform development.
• Business of English or Japanese

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with implementing platform components such as RESTful APIs, Pub/Sub Systems, Database Clients.
• Experience with AWS services.
• Experience in working for system development in finance, payment, or similar industries
• Experience in system design, development of web system which handles massive amount of transactions or requires scalability
• Experience in microservices
• Leverage AI/LLM-based tools in daily workflows (e.g., code development, reviews, testing, debugging, documentation), while ensuring human oversight, judgment, and accountability drive the final product.
