Job summary

Adagrad AI is seeking a Backend Engineer to own and scale services powering workforce-planning and scheduling for enterprise clients. You’ll work on a Python/Django stack with PostgreSQL and Celery, tackling real production challenges in multi-tenant deployments.

Responsibilities include building APIs, modelling data, writing efficient queries, and improving performance, reliability, and security across the platform. A hands-on, problem-solving mindset is essential.

Qualifications

• Relational DBs experience with PostgreSQL and writing performant SQL.
• Ability to debug and fix complex production issues in multi-tenant environments.

Job description

We're looking for a Backend Engineer to own and scale the services that power the workforce-planning and scheduling platform across enterprise clients. You'll work on a Python/Django codebase backed by PostgreSQL and Celery, solving real production problems for large, multi-tenant deployments. This is a hands-on role for someone who genuinely enjoys digging into hard problems, reasoning through edge cases, and shipping reliable systems.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain backend APIs and services using Python, Django, and Django REST Framework.
• Model data and write efficient queries against PostgreSQL FK joins, indexing, and query optimisation.
• Build and operate asynchronous workflows with Celery (scheduled jobs, background tasks, queues).
• Debug and resolve production issues across multi-tenant environments; trace root causes, not just symptoms.
• Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and take part in code reviews.
• Collaborate with frontend, product, and DevOps to deliver features end-to-end.
• Contribute to performance, reliability, and security improvements.

Requirements:

• Strong proficiency in Python and a modern web framework (Django/DRF preferred).
• Solid experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and writing performant SQL.
• Strong debugging skills, able to systematically isolate, reproduce, and fix complex production issues.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking that breaks down ambiguous problems and weighs trade-offs.
• Strong logical reasoning: designs correct, edge-case-aware solutions and can defend design decisions.
• Solid grasp of CS fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, complexity, and concurrency.
