We are looking for a Backend Developer to architect and build scalable server-side applications at Octopus Technologies. You will design APIs, implement authentication systems, manage databases, and build the real-time infrastructure that powers our collaborative tools. This role is critical to the reliability and performance of our platform, and you will have significant ownership over backend architecture and technical decisions.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop RESTful APIs and WebSocket services using Node.js and Express
- Architect database schemas and manage data in Firebase Firestore and MongoDB
- Implement secure authentication and authorization flows (JWT, OAuth, Firebase Auth)
- Write automated unit and integration tests to ensure service reliability
- Set up monitoring, logging, and alerting for production services
- Manage cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform and Firebase
- Document API endpoints, data models, and architectural decisions
Requirements
- 2–4 years of experience building backend services with Node.js
- Strong proficiency in Express.js and RESTful API design
- Experience with Firebase services (Firestore, Auth, Cloud Functions)
- Understanding of database design principles for both SQL and NoSQL databases
- Knowledge of authentication and security best practices
- Experience with WebSocket-based real-time communication
- Familiarity with Git, CI/CD, and automated testing frameworks
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
Nice to Have
- Experience with CRDT-based collaboration systems (Yjs, Automerge)
- Knowledge of Docker and container orchestration
- Familiarity with serverless architectures (Cloud Functions, Lambda)
- Experience with rate limiting, caching, and performance optimization
