Job summary

FIS is seeking a Back End Developer in Pune to design and implement backend services that support tax information reporting and core platforms. You will own backend architecture, data workflows, and cross-team collaboration to enable smooth releases and scalable solutions.

The ideal candidate has 3–6 years of Python/Perl backend experience, strong SQL skills, and a solid understanding of OOP and design patterns.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 3–6 years of hands-on backend development with Python and/or Perl scripting.
• Strong experience with relational databases and advanced SQL.
• Experience debugging and optimizing complex stored procedures and SQL logic.

About the role:

As a Software Engineer (Backend), you will drive the design and development of backend systems that support the Tax Information Reporting Suite (TIRS) and Core Services. You will lead backend engineering efforts, build scalable and reliable services, and ensure high‑quality technical delivery. In this role, you will own backend architecture, data processing workflows, and integrations across platforms. You will work closely with product, QA, DevOps, and other engineering teams to enable smooth releases, efficient deployments, and effective production support. You will guide technical decisions, mentor team members, and promote best practices in coding, performance, security, and automation. This position offers a strong opportunity to deepen backend expertise while shaping modern, enterprise‑grade solutions in a fast‑paced environment.

What you will be doing

• Must Have Actively participate in release planning and sprint planning, collaborating with stakeholders on scope and priorities
• Independently design, develop, and enhance backend components and services
• Write and maintain unit tests to ensure code quality and reliability
• Debug production and non‑production issues quickly and deliver timely fixes
• Understand, enhance, and develop SQL queries and stored procedures
• Ensure delivery of high‑quality, reliable, and maintainable software
• Follow established coding standards, best practices, and quality controls

What you bring:

• Must Have Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
• 3-6 years of hands‑on backend development experience using Python and/or Perl scripting
• Strong experience with relational databases and advanced SQL
• Ability to debug and optimize complex stored procedures and SQL logic
• Strong understanding of object‑oriented programming principles
• Working knowledge of design patterns and clean code practices
• Solid experience with Git, SVN or similar version control systems
• Strong problem‑solving, debugging, and analytical skills
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team
• Nice to Have Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred)
• Experience supporting large‑scale or regulated production systems
• Exposure to DevOps practices or automation
