Job summary

UST is seeking a Senior Backend Developer with strong expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, REST APIs, and AWS to design, develop, and maintain scalable, cloud-native applications.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with enterprise-grade backend systems, microservices, API-driven architectures, and AWS cloud services, along with solid software engineering and problem-solving skills. This role is based in Trivandrum, Kerala.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend development experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
• Experience building RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Proficient with AWS cloud services (Lambda, API Gateway, ECS/EKS, S3, DynamoDB).
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Strong understanding of backend architecture, design patterns and scalability.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD and SDLC practices.
• Security-focused backend development and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Build, integrate, and enhance RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Develop and deploy cloud-native applications using AWS services.
• Design secure, resilient, highly available, and high-performing backend systems.
• Participate in technical design, architecture discussions, and code reviews.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues; ensure system stability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, architects, QA, DevOps.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with enterprise-grade backend systems, microservices, API-driven architectures, and AWS cloud services, along with strong software engineering and problem-solving skills.

The Opportunity:

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Build, integrate, and enhance RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Develop and deploy cloud-native applications using AWS services.
• Design secure, resilient, highly available, and high-performing backend systems.
• Apply software design patterns, clean code principles, and backend architecture best practices.
• Participate in technical design, architecture discussions, and code reviews.
• Optimize application performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues, ensuring system stability and availability.
• Collaborate with product managers, architects, frontend developers, QA, DevOps, and other cross-functional teams.
• Mentor junior developers and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.

Mandatory Skills & Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
• Strong expertise in REST API development and API-driven architectures.
• Proven experience developing microservices-based applications.
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS cloud services, such as: AWS Lambda, API Gateway, ECS/EKS, S3, DynamoDB, CloudWatch.
• Experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases.
• Strong understanding of backend architecture, software design patterns, scalability, and system design.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD, and software development lifecycle practices.
• Strong understanding of secure, reliable, and high-performance backend development.
• Experience troubleshooting and resolving production-level technical issues.

Desired Skills:

• Experience with Kotlin.
• Hands-on experience with Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of event-driven architecture and messaging technologies such as Kafka, Amazon SNS, and Amazon SQS.
• Experience with observability, logging, monitoring, and application performance tools.
• Experience developing serverless applications.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.

Qualification:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
• A Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
• Equivalent professional experience with strong hands-on backend development expertise may be considered.
