Hyring® is seeking a hands-on Backend Engineer to join our lean engineering team in Chennai. You will own features end-to-end, build reliable REST APIs, and design secure, scalable services using Python or Node.js.

The role emphasizes performance, security, and maintainability while shipping rapidly in a startup environment. You will collaborate with product, frontend, and business teams to support customer workflows, billing, data processing, and automation on AWS.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years of hands-on backend engineering experience in production environments.
• Proficiency with Python or Node.js; both is a plus.
• Strong REST API design and backward compatibility.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and query optimization.
• Experience with AWS services.
• Familiarity with JWT/OAuth and secure API design.
• Experience with Docker and CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Own backend features end to end, from design to deployment and production support.

• Create event-driven flows for background jobs and scheduled workloads.

Job Title: Backend Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a hands-on Backend Engineer to join our lean engineering team and help build a scalable B2B SaaS platform. This role is ideal for someone who has worked on production backend systems and is comfortable owning features from design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and support. You will work closely with product, frontend, and business teams to build reliable backend services that support customer workflows, billing, integrations, data processing, and automation. We need an engineer who can think through performance, security, failure handling, financial correctness, and maintainability while moving fast in a practical startup environment.

What you will do

• Own backend features end to end, from technical design and implementation to testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
• Build reliable REST APIs for customer workflows, internal operations, integrations, billing, reporting, and automation use cases.
• Develop backend services using Python or Node.js and collaborate with the team to keep services modular, testable, and maintainable.
• Build event-driven and asynchronous processing flows for background jobs, scheduled workloads, retries, queue-based workflows, and operational recovery.
• Integrate payment and billing workflows, including payment webhooks, subscriptions, invoices, refunds, reconciliation jobs, and audit-friendly financial records.
• Implement secure authentication, authorization, and API access patterns for SaaS use cases such as roles, permissions, workspaces, and customer accounts.
• Improve application performance using practical caching, query optimization, rate limiting, and low-latency service design patterns.
• Deploy and operate backend workloads on AWS. Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, Docker-based deployments, logging, metrics, alerts, dashboards, and production debugging.
• Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, incident analysis, and engineering process improvements within a lean team.

What skills you will need

• 2-3 years of hands-on backend engineering experience in production environments.
• Strong practical experience with Python or Node.js; experience with both is an added advantage.
• Expert in writing REST API, request lifecycle, service boundaries, validation, error handling, pagination, versioning, and backward compatibility.
• Strong working knowledge of PostgreSQL or an equivalent relational database management system with practical experience with schema design, indexing, joins, transactions, migrations, and query optimization.
• Hands-on exposure to AWS services such as ECS, Batch, EventBridge, SNS/SQS, Lambda, Aurora, KMS, and Athena.
• Comfortable working with cloud-based backend workloads, environment configuration, secrets management, IAM basics, and production deployment concerns.
• Experience with JWT, OAuth, secure API design, and access-control patterns.
• Exposure to Stripe or similar payment systems, including payment webhooks, billing correctness, reconciliation, and audit-friendly workflows.
• Working knowledge of Git, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and containerization.
• Experience using cache and queue systems to improve performance, resilience, and throughput.
• Working knowledge of concurrency, multi-threading, distributed system behaviour, and high-throughput, low-latency service design.

Preferred Qualifications / Added Advantage

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate or equivalent practical AWS experience.
• Experience with observability systems such as Prometheus, Grafana, Telegraf, CloudWatch, OpenTelemetry, or equivalent tools.
• Experience integrating with OCR systems, AI APIs, LLM APIs, document-processing pipelines, or external APIs and automation systems.
• Prior experience working on a B2B SaaS platform, especially systems involving workspaces, customer accounts, subscriptions, RBAC, reports, or multi-tenant architecture.
• A proactive approach to solving complex problems, coupled with excellent collaboration and communication skills.
