Job summary

Synoptek is seeking a Database Administrator IV to manage Azure PostgreSQL environments, design HA strategies, and optimize queries and storage. You will collaborate with application teams, ensure backups, DR, and security, and mentor junior DBAs.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in database admin, strong SQL, and experience with Azure Monitor and PgBouncer. This role requires onsite presence in India with global client support and 24/7 operations readiness.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
Extensive experience in database administration and SQL Server/ MSSQL environments.
Strong understanding of database design, schemas, and performance tuning.

Responsibilities

Administer, monitor, and support Azure Database for PostgreSQL environments (Flexible Server and Single Server).
Manage provisioning, configuration, patching, upgrades, backups, restores, and disaster recovery.
Design high-availability strategies and implement to ensure resilience and uptime.

Job Description

The Database Administrator IV is responsible for working with customers, developers, and application teams to determine database requirements, architect database solutions, design schemas, maintain stored procedures, views, and indexes, and ensure stable, secure, and high-performing database operations. This role supports SQL Server installation, upgrades, migrations, configuration, performance monitoring, database maintenance, security administration, backups, restores, high availability design, and 24/7 operational support. The position also serves as a senior technical resource for database assessments, sales support, project estimation, performance troubleshooting, and DBA team mentorship.

Role

Administer, monitor, and support multiple Azure Database for PostgreSQL environments, including Flexible Server and Single Server where applicable.
Manage database provisioning, configuration, patching, upgrades, backups, restores, and disaster recovery.
Design and maintain high-availability and resiliency strategies using Azure-native capabilities.
Manage vacuum strategies, index optimization, statistics maintenance, and database-bloat reduction.
Diagnose and resolve slow queries, lock contention, memory pressure, connection exhaustion, and availability issues.
Analyze query execution plans and optimize SQL, indexes, and schema designs.
Establish performance baselines and capacity plans to support application growth.
Design, configure, deploy, tune, and operate PgBouncer in Azure-based environments.
Select and manage appropriate PgBouncer pooling modes, connection limits, pool sizes, authentication, TLS, and timeout settings.
Troubleshoot connection storms, pool saturation, and application connection-pooling issues.
Implement role-based access controls, least-privilege access, encryption, auditing, logging, and access reviews.
Build and maintain monitoring, alerting, and dashboards using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and PostgreSQL metrics.
Automate database operational tasks using scripting and infrastructure-as-code tools.
Participate in on-call rotations and lead root-cause analysis for database-related incidents.
Partner with application teams to promote safe client behavior and effective connection pooling.
Create and maintain runbooks, operational documentation, database standards, and best practices.
Provide technical guidance to engineering, DevOps, and SRE teams on PostgreSQL reliability, security, scalability, and performance.
