Job summary

Standard Chartered is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Java) to design, develop, and maintain enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, and microservices. The role emphasizes AI-assisted development to boost productivity and code quality, and collaboration with cross-functional teams on architectural decisions.

You will mentor juniors, participate in agile processes, and implement CI/CD with Azure DevOps, while ensuring security and compliance in modern, scalable systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• Strong experience with Java, Spring, and cloud technologies (preferred).
• Knowledge of AI/ML fundamentals and their application in software engineering (preferred).

• Design, develop, and maintain robust Java applications using core Java technologies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technology strategy discussions.

We are seeking a skilled Senior Software Engineer (Java) to join our technology team. This position requires a professional with strong expertise in Java development, microservices architecture, performance optimization, and modern AI-assisted development practices. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise-level applications while leveraging AI tools to enhance productivity and code quality.

Key Experiences

• Core Java: 8+ years of hands‑on experience with Java 8/11/17+, including collections, concurrency, and JVM tuning
• Microservices Architecture: Proven experience in designing and implementing microservices using Spring Boot, Spring Cloud
• Camunda BPM: Strong experience in workflow automation, BPMN modeling, and process orchestration
• SQL & Database: Advanced SQL skills, database design, query optimization, and performance tuning
• Performance Tuning: Expertise in application performance monitoring, profiling, and optimization techniques
• AI‑Assisted Development: Experience using AI tools like Claude, GitHub Copilot, or similar for code generation, debugging, and optimization
• RESTful APIs: Design and development of REST APIs and web services
• Spring Framework: Spring Core, Spring MVC, Spring Security, Spring Data
• Message Queuing: Experience with Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar technologies
• Testing: Unit testing (JUnit, Mockito), integration testing, and test automation
• DevOps Tools: Maven/Gradle, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes
• Version Control: Git, branching strategies, and code review processes
• AI Integration: Understanding of how to effectively integrate AI tools into development workflows

Certifications / Qualifications (only where mandatory)

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field
• Relevant certifications in Java, Spring, or cloud technologies (preferred)
• Knowledge of AI/ML fundamentals and their application in software engineering (preferred)
