Job summary

Reserve Bank Information Technology (ReBIT) in Navi Mumbai is seeking an Assistant Vice President of Data Science to lead a high-impact data science team. The role requires deep expertise in AI/ML, big data, NLP/CV, and governance, with a track record in delivering end-to-end data products and analytics for banking and financial services.

You will drive strategy, mentorship, and collaboration with product, IT, and finance teams, ensuring scalable model deployment via MLOps and ethical AI

Qualifications

• 20-24 years of total relevant experience.
• Minimum 4 years in leadership roles in AI/ML
• Deep experience in building end-to-end AI/ML applications with big data technologies
• Expertise in machine learning, statistical modelling, and data mining techniques
• Proficiency in Python, R, or similar languages, and experience with big data tools (Spark, Hadoop)
• Deep understanding of AI/ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (OpenShift, AWS, GCP) and MLOps pipelines
• Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI)
• Experience with NLP and computer vision
• Familiarity with data privacy regulations and ethical AI practices

Responsibilities

• Lead a techno-managerial data team with technical vision and BI to analyze large data, build data products and models.
• Develop and implement ReBIT's data science strategy aligned with RBI objectives.
• Identify AI/ML opportunities to solve business challenges and improve processes.
• Provide thought leadership on data science for competitive advantage.
• Oversee design, development, deployment of predictive and prescriptive models and recommendation systems.
• Implement deep learning, NLP, and computer vision to address complex problems.
• Ensure scalable model development and deployment through MLOps.
• Build, lead, and mentor a team of data scientists, analysts, and engineers.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate opportunities into data science projects.
• Communicate complex data-driven insights to technical and non-technical audiences, including executives.
• Ensure timely delivery of data science projects within scope, budget, and quality.
• Establish and promote best practices for data governance, ethical AI, and regulatory compliance.
• Oversee development of data pipelines and architecture to support analytics and deployment.
• Define and monitor KPIs to assess impact of data science initiatives.
• Continuously evaluate model effectiveness to evolving business needs.

Experience:

Key Responsibilities:

• He/she will be a techno managerial leadership role responsible for leading a top-class data team, providing technical vision, analytical support and business intelligence, to analyze large amount of raw information to find patterns, build data products and models to extract valuable business insights. He/she is expected to manage a team and contribute: -
• Develop and implement the ReBITs data science strategy in alignment with RBI / Central banking business objectives.
• Identify opportunities for AI/ML and advanced analytics to solve business challenges and improve processes.
• Provide thought leadership on leveraging data science and machine learning for competitive advantage.
• Oversee the design, development, and deployment of predictive and prescriptive models, recommendation systems, and other AI/ML applications.
• Implement cutting-edge techniques, such as deep learning, natural language processing (NLP), and computer vision, to address complex problems.
• Ensure scalable model development and deployment through MLOps practices.
• Build, lead, and mentor a team of data scientists, analysts, and engineers to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Product, IT, Finance) to identify business opportunities and translate them into data science projects.
• Effectively communicate complex data-driven insights to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior executives.
• Ensure timely delivery of data science projects, meeting scope, budget, and quality standards.
• Establish and promote best practices for data governance, ethical AI usage, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Oversee the development of data pipelines and architecture to support analytics and model deployment.
• Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the impact of data science initiatives.
• Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of models and analytics solutions to ensure they align with evolving business needs.

Education

• Bachelors degree in engineering/management
• Masters degree in engineering/management preferred

Industry

• Preferably from a Technology, ITES, Products, Professional SI organization with a focus on BFSI

Certification

• Big Data, Data Science Specific Certifications are preferred

Employment Type

• All positions are on fixed term contract on a full-time basis exclusively for ReBIT, initially for a period of five years, extendable by mutual consent.
