Job description

Dhruva Space is seeking an Avionics Engineer to take a leadership role in the design, analysis, testing, and management of electrical power systems for satellite and space missions. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing the Electrical Power Subsystem (EPS) for satellites, spacecraft, or other space-bound platforms, ensuring that systems meet stringent reliability, efficiency, and durability standards for long-duration missions. This role involves overseeing complex power system projects from concept through deployment, providing technical leadership within multidisciplinary teams, mentoring junior engineers, ensuring compliance with space industry standards, and driving innovation in satellite power system technologies.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Lead the design, analysis, and optimization of satellite power systems, including solar array sizing, energy storage (batteries), power conversion, and distribution.
  • Perform detailed power budget analyses to ensure the satellite's power subsystem can meet mission demands under various scenarios, including worst-case conditions.
  • Oversee the development, selection, and testing of power components such as solar cells, battery systems, power distribution units (PDUs), and voltage regulators for space environments.
  • Conduct system-level modeling, simulation, and optimization of the satellite’s electrical power system (EPS) using tools like MATLAB, Simulink, PSpice, or similar.
  • Lead the integration of power systems with other spacecraft subsystems (thermal, mechanical, avionics) to ensure overall system compatibility and performance.
  • Supervise the execution of environmental and functional testing, including thermal, vacuum, and vibration tests, to validate power subsystem performance under space conditions.
  • Provide technical leadership in satellite power system fault management, redundancy planning, and failure analysis during both the design and operational phases.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, including systems engineering, thermal engineering, and mission operations, to meet project timelines and mission requirements.
  • Support spacecraft mission operations, providing expertise in anomaly resolution and optimization of the satellite's power system performance in orbit.
  • Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and support for professional development and ensuring high-quality technical deliverables.
  • Stay abreast of advances in space power system technologies and industry trends, integrating new methods and innovations into ongoing and future projects.
Candidate requirements :
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4-7 years of experience in satellite power system design, development, or related electrical engineering roles, with a focus on space applications.
  • Strong expertise in satellite power generation (solar cells), energy storage (space-grade batteries), power conversion, and distribution.
  • Proficiency with power system simulation tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, PSpice, or equivalent.
  • In-depth understanding of the challenges associated with power systems in the space environment, including radiation effects, thermal management, and system reliability.
  • Hands-on experience in environmental testing of satellite power systems, including thermal-vacuum, vibration, and radiation testing.
  • Familiarity with space industry standards and regulations (e.g., NASA, ESA, MIL-STD).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage projects, ensuring timely delivery of technical milestones and overall system performance.
  • Experience with high-reliability, radiation-hardened power electronics and components.
  • Knowledge of space mission operations and satellite telemetry systems, with a focus on power system monitoring.
  • Familiarity with sustainability and power efficiency practices in satellite and spacecraft design.
  • Proven track record of leading successful power subsystem projects from concept to product.
