Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Automation Engineer to take ownership of our automation ecosystem. The ideal candidate will design robust test strategies and spearhead the integration of AI-driven workflows to accelerate development, improve code quality, and increase the velocity of our CI/CD pipelines. You will serve as a force multiplier for the team, balancing deep technical execution with the architectural oversight of AI-assisted development.
Success Metrics
Success in this role will be defined by a measurable reduction in software delivery cycle time and a consistent increase in automated test coverage across our core services, ultimately enhancing the reliability and release velocity of the product.
Required Experience
- 5+ years of hands‑on experience in automation engineering.
- AI Agent Tooling: Proven, hands‑on experience utilizing AI agents such as Devin and Codex to accelerate code generation, complex refactoring, and automated debugging cycles.
- Proven expertise in web service/API automation and white‑box testing.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
Technical Skills
- Languages: Strong proficiency in Java and Groovy.
- Frameworks: Playwright (preferred) or Selenium; TestNG.
- CI/CD & DevOps: Deep familiarity with Jenkins, Maven, and Git.
- Cloud: Experience with AWS or Azure.
- OS: Proficient in Linux‑based environments.
Key Competencies
- Analytical Rigor: Excellent debugging skills for complex system issues.
- Time Management: Ability to prioritize effectively to "automate at the speed of development."
- Proactive Learning: A commitment to staying at the forefront of emerging tools and technologies.
- Communication: Clear, concise communication to explain complex automation strategies to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- AI-Driven Engineering & Innovation
- AI Collaboration: Partner with AI coding agents to accelerate test development by translating requirements into scaffolded code, navigating complex codebases, and iterating through rapid debug cycles.
- AI Governance: Author and maintain "AI Skill Guides" that define codebase conventions, reusable utility libraries, and established framework patterns for AI agents to follow.
- Quality Oversight: Review all AI-generated code for correctness, domain accuracy, and architectural alignment with existing systems.
- Domain Expertise: Leverage AI for boilerplate generation and iterative debugging, providing the critical human context, design decisions, and risk assessments that models cannot infer independently.
- Impact Reporting: Audit and refine AI-generated impact reports and test cases, ensuring comprehensive coverage and challenging risk ratings where necessary.
- Strategic Mindset: Utilize AI as a force multiplier, ensuring it remains an accelerator for high‑quality outcomes rather than a substitute for sound engineering judgment.
- Automation Development & Strategy
- Develop and maintain scalable automation frameworks for web service/API testing and non‑UI systems.
- Author, execute, and evolve manual test plans into robust, reusable automated test suites.
- Build custom internal tools to bridge gaps in DevOps processes and optimize development pipelines.
- Testing, Debugging, & Performance
- Own features end‑to‑end; identify and resolve failures stemming from coding errors, environment instability, or application bugs.
- Execute performance testing initiatives using tools such as Apache JMeter or LoadRunner to ensure system resilience.Maintain accurate test reporting, including coverage metrics, pass/fail trends, and defect analysis.
- Cloud, CI/CD, & Collaboration
- Deploy and test applications in cloud environments (AWS/Azure) with a focus on automated infrastructure.
- Manage and support CI/CD environments (Jenkins) to ensure reliable, high‑speed build‑to‑deployment cycles.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (Development, QA, DevOps) to align automation efforts with the broader product lifecycle.
