Job summary

Tata Consultancy Services is seeking an experienced Automation Test Engineer (Java SDET) to design, develop, and execute automated test solutions for APIs and web applications. The role requires strong Java, Selenium, and API testing expertise within an Agile, globally distributed team.

You will build and maintain Java-based automation frameworks (Cucumber, BDD) and integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Maven, and Git, driving high-quality software delivery.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software testing experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with Core Java, Selenium, Maven, Git, Jenkins, JIRA.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs and API automation.
• Experience with UI and API automation testing using Cucumber/BDD.
• Knowledge of Gherkin syntax and RAML or similar patterns.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and executing automated test solutions for APIs and web applications while ensuring high software quality and compliance with enterprise testing standards.

The role requires strong automation testing experience, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with globally distributed teams in an Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities

Automation Testing

• Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts for web applications and APIs.
• Develop automation frameworks using Java-based technologies and industry best practices.
• Perform functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing.
• Ensure high-quality software delivery through automation-first testing approaches.

API Testing

• Validate REST APIs including:
• GET

• DELETE
• Test request-response mechanisms, message schemas, and API contracts.
• Perform API automation and backend validation activities.

BDD & Test Framework Development

• Develop automation scenarios using:
• Cucumber
• BDD Methodology
• Gherkin Syntax

• Maintain testing documentation and test cases.

DevOps & CI/CD Integration

• Integrate automation testing into CI/CD pipelines.

Quality Engineering

• Review test processes and identify automation opportunities.
• Coordinate testing activities across projects.

• Collaborate with development teams across multiple locations.
• Mentor and support junior testers where required.
