Role name: Automation System Engineer
Experience: 8-10 Years
Job Type: C2H
Project Duration: 12+ Month
Notice Period: Immediate 15 Days
Location: Hyderabad (Hybrid)
Shift Timing: 2 - 11 PM
Role Overview
The Systems Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing and supporting automation solutions across enterprise IT services.
The role focuses on turning manual, repetitive and operationally complex processes into reliable, secure and supportable automation. You will work across infrastructure, identity, service management, security and Microsoft 365 platforms, integrating systems through APIs, PowerShell, SQL and other technologies.
This is not simply a scripting role. You will take ownership of automation throughout its lifecycle, from understanding the business process and designing the solution through development, testing, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting and ongoing improvement.
You will work closely with infrastructure and application teams, service owners and other technology stakeholders to identify opportunities where automation can reduce manual effort, improve consistency, minimise operational risk and provide a better experience for IT teams and users.
Key Responsibilities
Automation Engineering
- Design, develop and maintain production automation using PowerShell as a primary automation technology.
- Develop reusable PowerShell functions, modules and frameworks that follow agreed engineering standards.
- Build repeatable and idempotent automation that can be executed safely more than once.
- Translate manual business and operational processes into explicit workflows covering:
- Inputs and validation
- Process states and decision points
- Exceptions and error conditions
- Approvals
- Notifications
- Audit requirements
- Recovery and rollback
- Integrate enterprise platforms using REST and GraphQL APIs, PowerShell modules and other appropriate interfaces.
- Work with JSON, XML, CSV, Excel, HTML and other common enterprise data formats.
- Implement appropriate logging, audit trails, validation, retry handling and failure recovery.
- Apply safeguards such as processing limits, scoped permissions and explicit validation before making destructive or high-impact changes.
Data and SQL
- Develop and maintain automation that reads and writes data in Microsoft SQL Server.
- Create and maintain T-SQL queries, tables, views, stored procedures and supporting database objects.
- Use SQL to provide process state, configuration, audit history and reporting for automation services.
- Design safe approaches for database and schema changes and promote changes through controlled development and production processes.
- Trace data across multiple platforms when diagnosing automation or data-quality issues.
Enterprise Systems Integration
Develop and support automation integrating with platforms including:
- ServiceNow, including requests, catalog tasks, incidents, changes, approvals, CMDB and asset information.
- Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID, including users, groups, computer accounts, organisational units and identity lifecycle processes.
- Microsoft Graph for Microsoft 365 and cloud identity automation.
- Exchange Online, shared mailboxes, SharePoint, PnP PowerShell and Microsoft Teams.
- Credential and secrets-management platforms such as CyberArk.
- CI/CD and automation execution platforms, particularly TeamCity.
- Automation portals and dashboards built using PowerShell Universal.
You will be expected to understand both the technical integration and the underlying business process being automated.
Development and Change Management
- Use Git for source control and collaborative development.
- Review changes and contribute to appropriate peer-review processes.
- Safely promote automation, configuration and database changes through development, testing and production environments.
- Build and maintain CI/CD processes, primarily using TeamCity and associated development tooling.
- Test automation using representative data and controlled development runs before production deployment.
- Apply static analysis and automated testing where appropriate, including PSScriptAnalyzer and Pester.
- Ensure significant changes have appropriate rollback, recovery and validation plans.
Production Support and Reliability
- Own and support automation after deployment rather than treating development as the end of the lifecycle.
- Monitor scheduled and event-driven automation and respond to failures.
