Job summary

Larsen & Toubro in Bengaluru seeks a senior Mechanical Design Engineer to craft product and system-level mechanical architectures for PCS, BESS containers, and EV charging solutions. You will develop enclosures, optimize cooling, and ensure environmental robustness while coordinating with electrical and control teams.

The role covers thermal and structural analyses, DFM/DFA, and documentation for prototype builds, with emphasis on safety, manufacturability, and serviceability across large-scale

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Proven experience in designing mechanical enclosures and systems for power electronics.

Responsibilities

• Design product and system-level mechanical architecture for power conversion units and energy storage containers.
• Develop enclosures, cabinets, skids, and container layouts with focus on IP protection and corrosion resistance.
• Perform thermal, airflow, and structural analyses; optimize for manufacturability and serviceability.
• Coordinate with electrical and control teams on layouts, clearances, and cable routing.
• Support prototype builds, NPI, and production ramp-up; drive cost reduction and weight optimization.
• Support mechanical testing and certification to IEC, UL, ISO standards; document revisions.

• Mechanical Architecture & Enclosure Design
• Design product and system-level mechanical architecture for:
• PCS & BESS containers
• EV chargers (AC/DC)
• Electrolysers & power supply cabinets
• Develop enclosures, cabinets, skids, and container layouts.
• Ensure IP protection, corrosion resistance, and environmental robustness.
• Thermal & Cooling Design
• Design thermal management solutions:
• Forced air cooling
• Perform thermal simulations (CFD) and support validation.
• Optimize airflow paths, heat sink design, and component placement.
• Structural & Mechanical Analysis
• Perform structural analysis for:
• Static & dynamic loads
• Ensure compliance with wind, seismic, and shock/vibration requirements.
• Design for safe lifting, handling, and installation.
• Integration with Electrical & Control Systems
• Coordinate with electrical and control teams on:
• Component placement & clearances
• Cable routing and bending radius
• Ensure creepage, clearance, and safety requirements are mechanically supported.
• Design for manufacturability, assembly, and serviceability.
• Select materials and finishes considering cost, durability, and environment.
• Support prototype builds, NPI, and production ramp-up.
• Drive cost reduction and weight optimization initiatives.
• Testing, Validation & Compliance
• Support mechanical and environmental testing:

• Liquid cooling (cold plates, heat exchangers)
• Perform thermal simulations (CFD) and support validation.
• Optimize airflow paths, heat sink design, and component placement.
• Structural & Mechanical Analysis
• Perform structural analysis for:
• Static & dynamic loads
• Transportation & seismic conditions
• Ensure compliance with wind, seismic, and shock/vibration requirements.
• Design for safe lifting, handling, and installation.
