Job summary

Harbinger Group in Pune, India seeks a senior software engineer to own maintenance, enhancement, and support for a large ASP.NET Web Forms application. You will analyze and optimize PostgreSQL stored procedures and triage production incidents in a tightly coupled legacy environment.

Lead a 2-6 person team, mentor engineers, review changes, and collaborate with stakeholders on RCA and technical decisions. Experience with AI coding tools and Windows/IIS deployment is highly valued.

Qualifications

• 6-7 years of hands-on software development experience with ASP.NET Web Forms and C#/.NET Framework.
• Strong PostgreSQL skills: writing, debugging, and optimizing complex stored procedures, functions, and triggers.
• Experience in production support/maintenance, incident triage, and RCA.
• Familiarity with version control systems (Git, TFS, SVN) and IIS deployment.
• Ability to mentor engineers and lead a small technical team.

Responsibilities

• Take end-to-end ownership of maintenance, enhancement, and support activities for a large-scale ASP.NET Web Forms application.
• Analyze, debug, and optimize complex PostgreSQL stored procedures, functions, and triggers within a database of ~11,000 stored procedures.
• Triage and resolve production incidents, performance issues, and data integrity problems within agreed SLAs.
• Lead impact analysis for change requests across a tightly coupled legacy codebase and database layer.
• Review code and stored procedure changes submitted by team members; enforce coding, security, and performance standards.
• Break down client requirements/tickets into tasks, estimate effort, and distribute work across the team.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers on Web Forms, C#, and PostgreSQL/SQL best practices.
• Act as the primary technical point of contact with the client/stakeholders for status updates, root-cause analysis reports, and technical decisions.
• Identify and drive modernization or optimization opportunities within the constraints of a legacy platform.
• Maintain and improve documentation for application modules, database objects, and support runbooks.
• Support release planning, deployment coordination, and post-release validation.
• Evaluate, pilot, and drive adoption of AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar) to accelerate bug triage, root-cause analysis, and quick-fix turnaround on the legacy codebase and stored procedures.
• Design and build lightweight AI-based automation for recurring maintenance tasks - e.g., auto-summarizing incident logs, generating impact-analysis drafts for change requests, flagging risky stored procedures before deployment, or auto-drafting RCA reports.
• Define guardrails and review practices for AI-generated code/SQL changes (validation, testing, sign-off standards) to ensure production safety in a high-stakes legacy environment.
• Champion a human-in-the-loop, AI-co-assisted maintenance model within the team - coaching engineers on effective prompting, verification, and safe use of AI tools against an 11K-stored-procedure codebase.
• 6-7 years of hands-on software development experience, with significant time spent on ASP.NET Web Forms and C# / .NET Framework.
• Strong expertise in PostgreSQL, including writing, debugging, and optimizing complex stored procedures, functions, triggers, and views.
• Proven experience working with and navigating large, complex database schemas (high stored-procedure-count systems is a strong plus).
• Solid understanding of application performance tuning (application-side and query-side).
• Experience with production support/maintenance projects - incident triage, RCA, defect resolution.
• Familiarity with version control systems (Git, TFS, or SVN) and change management processes.
• Working knowledge of IIS deployment and application hosting/troubleshooting in a Windows environment.
• Prior experience mentoring engineers or leading a small technical team (2-6 members).
• Excellent communication skills - able to explain technical issues clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) in a real development/maintenance workflow.
• Experience building small automation scripts or agents (using LLM APIs) for tasks like log analysis, ticket triage, code/SQL review assistance, or documentation generation.
• Awareness of risks/limitations of AI-generated code in legacy, high-complexity systems and how to mitigate them.
