Job summary

APX Luxury is seeking an Associate Editor to shape the voice and editorial direction of a new digital publication covering luxury, fashion, design, travel, and culture across Africa. You will concept content, edit and write stories, and help build an editorial playbook defining how the brand tells its stories.

The ideal candidate is a sharp editor with strong editorial judgement and a deep interest in Africa’s creative and luxury landscape.

Qualifications

• 4-6 years in journalism, publishing, luxury, fashion, lifestyle or culture media, incl. at least 2 years in editing.
• Demonstrated ability to conceptualise content and contribute to editorial strategy.
• Excellent command of English, with a strong writing voice and ability to elevate others' work.
• Strong research, reporting and interviewing skills.
• Curious about African and international culture with understanding of markets across the continent.
• Solid understanding of SEO, digital publishing and audience analytics.
• Meticulous about facts, names, titles and details.
• Organised and able to manage multiple projects, contributors and deadlines.

Overview

APX Luxury is seeking an Associate Editor to help shape the voice, vision and editorial direction of a new digital publication dedicated to luxury, fashion, design, travel and culture across Africa. Working closely with editorial leadership, the Associate Editor will conceptualise content, edit and write original stories, and help in building the editorial playbook that will define how the brand tells its stories. The ideal candidate is a sharp editor and accomplished writer with strong editorial judgement and a deep interest in the creative and luxury landscape across the African continent.

Key Responsibilities

• Conceptualise and develop editorial content, including story ideas, franchises, series and features that reflect the brand's positioning and audience.
• Help create and maintain a comprehensive content playbook for the brand, covering editorial voice and tone, style guidelines, content pillars, formats, SEO standards and publishing workflows.
• Plan and manage the editorial calendar, aligning content with cultural moments, industry events and brand priorities.
• Edit stories for clarity, accuracy, structure, tone and consistency with the brand's voice.
• Research, report and write original features, profiles, interviews and essays on luxury, fashion, design, travel, business and personalities across Africa.
• Commission and build a network of writers, photographers and creative contributors across African markets and the diaspora.
• Ensure all content is digital-first and SEO-forward, working with digital and social teams to maximise reach and engagement.
• Uphold rigorous standards for fact-checking, attribution, names, titles and cultural accuracy.
• Track content performance and use audience insights to refine editorial strategy.

The Ideal Candidate

• 4-6 years of experience in journalism, publishing, luxury, fashion, lifestyle or culture media, including at least 2 years in an editing role.
• Demonsrated ability to conceptualise content and contribute to editorial strategy.
• Excellent command of English, with a strong individual writing voice and the ability to elevate the work of others.
• Strong research, reporting and interviewing skills.
• Curious about the African and international culture, with an understanding of the diversity of markets, creative scenes and audiences across the continent.
• Solid understanding of SEO, digital publishing and audience analytics.
• Meticulous about facts, names, titles and details.
• Organised and comfortable managing multiple projects, contributors and deadlines at speed without compromising editorial quality.
• A knowledge of Africa's creative, fashion, design or luxury industries is a strong advantage.
• Understanding of programmatic advertising and revenue is a plus.
