Job summary

WSP India is seeking an Associate Consultant - GIS to join our growing geospatial and location intelligence team. This is a senior technical and team leader role to lead GIS workstreams, shape methods, and help clients unlock value from spatial data across infrastructure, environment, energy, transport, planning and land projects.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of GIS experience and leadership of complex workstreams.
  • Strong GIS delivery experience across spatial analysis, mapping, web GIS and location intelligence solutions.
  • Experience mentoring technical colleagues and delivering for clients.
  • Proficiency with Esri tech (ArcGIS Pro/Enterprise/Online) and dashboards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead GIS and location intelligence workstreams across multidisciplinary projects.
  • Manage and support a growing technical team, fostering quality and collaboration.
  • Translate requirements into practical GIS, data and digital solutions.
  • Own delivery within agreed programme, budget and quality, managing risk and change.

This is a senior technical and team leader role for someone who can lead GIS workstreams, guide the selection of methods and approaches, and help colleagues and clients unlock the value of spatial data across infrastructure, environment, energy, transport, planning and land-related projects. You will help shape and deliver high-quality spatial solutions using platforms such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, web GIS, mobile data capture, dashboards, FME and spatial analysis tools. You will bring a strong understanding of spatial data, client needs and digital delivery, with the confidence to translate complex technical information into clear advice, practical solutions and exceptional project outcomes. FME experience would be highly valuable, particularly where it supports data integration, automation, quality assurance and repeatable workflows. We are most interested in people who can lead GIS delivery, develop robust spatial methods, inspire colleagues and team members to innovate, and apply the right tools to solve complex location‑based challenges. You will work with multidisciplinary teams to provide trusted GIS advice, lead project delivery, support quality and governance, and help develop opportunities for new and repeat work. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams, client stakeholders, and internal resources to ensure the timely and high‑quality delivery of projects. This position is based in India and involves working closely with both local and global teams. In summary, the role of a Associate Consultant - GIS is multifaceted, requiring a balance of technical expertise, project management skills, client engagement, and effective team leadership. The position plays a crucial role in ensuring the successful delivery of Geospatial projects, contributing to client satisfaction, and driving continuous improvement within the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Lead GIS and location intelligence workstreams across multidisciplinary projects, helping clients use spatial data to make better decisions.
  • Manage and support a growing technical team, creating a customer‑focused culture around quality, service, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Provide trusted technical advice to clients and colleagues, translating requirements into practical GIS, data and digital solutions.
  • Take accountability for delivery to agreed programme, budget and quality requirements, while proactively managing risk, scope and change.
  • Lead or contribute to the design, deployment and governance of GIS platforms, web GIS, field applications, dashboards and spatial data workflows.
  • Support effective data management, integration, documentation and governance, including awareness of ISO27001 and GDPR requirements where relevant
  • Use automation and data integration tools, which may include FME, Python, SQL, ArcGIS tools or other appropriate technologies, to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Prepare or contribute to proposals, bids and client value propositions, supporting growth in GIS, location intelligence and digital services.
  • Guide the development of methods, standards, documentation and best practice so that the team can deliver consistent, scalable and high‑quality outcomes.
Project Planning and Execution
  • Develop and implement project plans, ensuring alignment with client expectations and project objectives.
  • Collaborate with technical leads, architects, and project managers to ensure successful project execution.
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and proactively address issues to ensure timely delivery.
Client Engagement
  • Act as a primary point of contact for clients, building and maintaining strong relationships.
  • Understand client requirements and expectations, ensuring the delivery meets or exceeds these standards.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to clients on project status and milestones.
Team Management
  • Lead and manage a team of technical professionals, providing guidance and support.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive team culture, encouraging innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct performance reviews, set goals, and ensure the professional development of team members.
Quality Assurance
  • Ensure that project deliverables meet the highest quality standards.
  • Implement and enforce best practices, quality control processes, and documentation standards.
Financial Management
  • Manage project budgets, resource allocation, and financial forecasting.
  • Work closely with the finance team to ensure accurate billing and invoicing.
Risk Management
  • Identify and mitigate project risks, escalating issues as needed.
  • Implement risk management strategies to ensure project success.
Continuous Improvement
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the Microsoft Practice.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization, efficiency gains, and improved client satisfaction.
Qualifications

Key Competencies / Skills:

  • 15+ years of GIS experience with leadership of complex workstreams.
  • Strong GIS experience, including delivery of spatial analysis, mapping, web GIS, data management or location intelligence solutions.
  • Experience managing, mentoring or supporting technical colleagues, with the ability to help others deliver effectively.
  • Experience using Esri technology such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, ESRI mobile apps or real‑time dashboards.
  • Ability to lead complex GIS workstreams or advisory projects and deliver high‑quality outcomes for clients.
  • Strong client‑facing skills, including the ability to understand needs, provide advice and build trusted relationships
  • Good understanding of spatial data quality, documentation, governance and delivery processes.
