Job summary

Sattva Consulting seeks an Associate Consultant for Environmental & Social Due Diligence (ESG DD) to join our Sustainability & Business Advisory practice in India. You will execute ESGDD, impacts assessments, and ESAPs across manufacturing, textiles, FMCG, and renewables, aligning with IFC standards and World Bank guidelines.

The role requires 3–5 years of experience, strong report writing, stakeholder engagement, and willingness to travel for site assessments.

Qualifications

• Master’s or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or a closely related discipline.
• 2–4 years of relevant experience in E&S consulting, ESG advisory, or sustainability risk management.
• Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, field verification, and management interaction during due diligence and impact assessments.

Responsibilities

• Execute desktop and field-based ESG due diligence.
• Review project information, permits, land details, and existing E&S documentation to identify compliance gaps and risks.
• Assess material E&S risks including biodiversity, water management, labor conditions, community health & safety, and cultural heritage.
• Perform climate risk and vulnerability assessments as part of ESG reviews.
• Develop costed Environmental & Social Action Plans (ESAP) to mitigate identified risks.
• Review and advise on ESGMS and ESMP implementations.
• Coordinate responses to queries from investors, consultants, and project teams.
• Author high-quality technical reports and MIS dashboards.

Job Title: Associate Consultant – Environmental & Social Due Diligence (ESG DD)

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically proficient Associate Consultant to join our Sustainability & Business Advisory. The successful candidate will play a critical role in executing Environmental, Social, and Governance Due Diligence (ESGDD) and Impact Assessments for a diverse portfolio of clients, including Private Equity and Venture Capital Firms, Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), investment banks, and corporate clients. You will evaluate complex E&S risks across multiple sectors, specifically Manufacturing, Textiles, FMCG, Renewable Energy and other sectors ensuring alignment with national regulations and global sustainability frameworks such as the IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles, and World Bank EHS Guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute desktop and field-based ESDD
• Review project information, permits, land details, and existing E&S documentation to identify critical compliance gaps and reputational risks.
• Assess material E&S risks, including biodiversity impacts, water resource management, labor conditions, community health & safety, and cultural heritage.
• Perform climate risk and vulnerability assessments as part of the broader ESG review.
• Develop pragmatic and costed Environmental & Social Action Plans (ESAP) to mitigate identified risks.
• Review, design, and advise on the implementation of robust Environmental & Social Management Systems (ESGMS) and specific Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMP).
• Apply hands‑on experience in stakeholder engagement, field verification, and management interaction to accurately assess site-level E&S practices, cultural sensitivities, and operational realities.
• Coordinate responses to queries from investors, external consultants, and internal project teams.
• Guide clients on sustainable practices, and the integration of ESG metrics into their operations.
• Author high-quality technical reports, executive summary notes for credit/risk committees, and MIS dashboards for management review.
• Maintain accurate E&S risk registers, compliance trackers, and project documentation.
• Manage project timelines, ensure deliverables meet quality standards, and coordinate cross-functional inputs.

Qualifications & Competencies

Education

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or a closely related discipline from a recognized institute.

Experience

• 2 to 4 years of relevant professional experience in E&S consulting, ESG advisory, or sustainability risk management.
• Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, field verification, and management interaction during the execution of due diligence and impact assessments.
• Proven track record of delivering ESGDD, and ESIA compliance reviews.
• Demonstrated multi-sectoral exposures.
• Experience working with or evaluating projects for PE firms, DFIs, or multilateral agencies (e.g., World Bank, AFD, IFC).

Technical & Soft Skills

• Strong working knowledge of Indian environmental and labor regulations, and IFC Performance Standards.
• Familiarity with corporate sustainability reporting and ESG data analytics is highly desirable.
• Excellent written English and report drafting capabilities; ability to synthesize complex technical data into clear, actionable insights.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and data management tools.
• Robust project management, time management, and stakeholder coordination skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and a willingness to undertake extended travel for site assessments as required.
