Sol's ARC is a disability inclusion organisation with over 23 years of experience enabling Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) to access education, livelihoods and employment. We work with governments, donors and communities to create systemic, scalable and sustainable change.
Our life-skills and employability programme prepares young adults with disabilities for the world of work. Learners build communication, workplace behaviour and independent-living skills through accessible classroom sessions, workplace simulations, exposure visits and on-the-job training (OJT) with employer partners.
About the Role
The Assistant Teacher supports the delivery of inclusive life-skills and employability-focused sessions for young adults with disabilities. Working under the guidance of a Teacher or Vocational Head Teacher, you will help learners participate fully, stay engaged and make steady progress.
This is an entry-level, hands-on role. You will co-facilitate sessions, support individual learner needs, manage the classroom, keep accurate records and help coordinate exposure visits and placement-linked activities. It suits someone who is patient, organised and committed to inclusion, and who wants to grow into a lead teaching role.
What Will You Typically Do?
1. Session Facilitation and Learner Support
- Co-facilitate training sessions with the Teacher/VHT, using simple language, visuals and hands‑on practice.
- Support individual learner needs through prompting, repetition and accessible materials.
- Help implement lesson plans, activities, workplace simulations and role plays.
- Use inclusive communication methods — basic sign language, gestures and visual schedules — as required.
2. Life Skills and Workplace Readiness
- Support practice of life skills, communication and appropriate workplace behaviour.
- Reinforce learning through daily routines, group activities and one‑to‑one support.
3. Classroom and Behaviour Management
- Assist with classroom management so every learner stays engaged.
- Use patient, calm strategies to manage challenging behaviour.
- Ensure safeguarding, inclusion and respectful learner engagement at all times.
4. Documentation and Tracking
- Maintain attendance records, session notes, learner progress notes and simple trackers.
- Capture information accurately and on time; support learner assessments.
- Share field and classroom observations with the Teacher/VHT.
5. Exposure, OJT and Stakeholder Coordination
- Assist with exposure visits, employer and partner sessions, and OJT coordination and follow‑ups.
- Coordinate with parents, partners and employers on visit and OJT logistics.
- Work closely with the Teacher/VHT and follow guidance on all coordination activities.
How Will Your Success Be Measured?
- Inclusive facilitation: Sessions co-facilitated as planned using accessible methods; positive feedback from the Teacher/VHT.
- Learner support: Learners receive individual support and stay engaged; challenging behaviour handled calmly and safely.
- Inclusive communication: Sign language, gestures or visual aids used appropriately to meet learner needs.
- Documentation and tracking: Attendance, session notes and learner progress records complete, accurate and on time.
- Exposure and OJT coordination: Visits, employer sessions and OJT logistics coordinated smoothly with timely follow‑ups.
- Safeguarding: Safeguarding and respectful engagement practices followed at all times; no lapses reported.
- Teamwork: Works closely with the Teacher/VHT, follows guidance and shares observations regularly.
