Assistant Store Manager
Job Summary and Mission: This job contributes to Starbucks success by leading a team of store partners to create and maintain the Starbucks Experience for our customers and partners. The store lead is required to regularly and customarily exercise discretion in managing the overall operation of the store. In particular, a majority of time is spent supervising and directing the workforce, making staffing decisions (i.e., hiring, training, evaluating, disciplining, discharging, staffing and scheduling), ensuring customer satisfaction and product quality, managing the store's financial performance, and managing safety and security within the store. The incumbent is responsible for modeling and acting in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
Responsibilities
- Leadership – Setting the goals for the work group, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together. Includes driving the implementation of company programs by developing action plans and directly motivating and instructing the store team to meet operational and organizational objectives. Plans, identifies, communicates, and delegates appropriate responsibilities and practices to store partners to ensure smooth flow of operations. Training and accountability for delivering legendary customer service and maintaining a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events.
- Planning and Execution – Developing strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution and measuring results. Communicates clearly, concisely and accurately to ensure effective store operations; monitors and manages store staffing levels to support partner development and talent acquisition; schedules and assigns partners and follows up on work results.
- Business Requirements – Providing functional expertise and executing responsibilities. Uses tools to plan for and achieve operational excellence (e.g., Automated Labour Scheduling, Monthly Status Report, Quarterly Business Review, cash and inventory management). Analyzes financial reports to identify trends and address store performance, forecasts sales, manages revenue and cash handling, and ensures merchandise availability.
- Partner Development & Team Building – Providing coaching, feedback and developmental opportunities and building effective teams. Conducts performance assessments, provides feedback, sets goals, and uses performance management tools. Builds positive relationships with partners, addresses motivations and cultural needs, and fosters a culture of coffee knowledge and appreciation. Ensures compliance with legal and operational requirements and recognizes team accomplishments.
- Additional responsibilities – Interviewing and training partners, planning and directing work, goal setting and performance reviews, addressing complaints, and conducting regular store meetings. Maintains a positive and inclusive team environment where partners feel valued and respected.
Qualifications
- Summary of Experience: Progressive responsibility in a retail or restaurant environment – 3 years; Experience in analyzing financial reports and supervision – 1 year.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong operational skills in a customer-service environment; ability to manage in a fast-paced setting; effective communication; resource management to meet service levels; knowledge of customer service techniques and supervisory practices; strong organization, planning, prioritization, problem solving and team-building skills with leadership for coaching and mentoring others.
