Assistant Store Manager
Job Summary and Mission: This role leads a team of store partners to create and maintain the Starbucks Experience for customers and partners. The assistant store manager regularly and customarily exercises discretion in managing the overall operation of the store. The majority of time is spent supervising and directing the workforce, making staffing decisions (hiring, training, evaluating, disciplining, discharging, staffing and scheduling), ensuring customer satisfaction and product quality, managing the store's financial performance, and managing safety and security within the store. The incumbent is responsible for modeling and acting in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
Summary of Key Responsibilities

- Drives implementation of company programs by developing action plans and directly motivating and instructing the store team to meet operational and organizational objectives.
- Plans, identifies, communicates, and delegates responsibilities and practices to store partners to ensure smooth flow of operations.
- Displays a customer‑first attitude by training and holding partners accountable for delivering legendary customer service.
- Demonstrates calm demeanor during high‑volume or unusual events and manages smooth transitions to keep store operating to standard and set a positive example for the team.
- Developing strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution and measuring results.
- Utilizes operational tools to plan for and achieve operational excellence; tools include Automated Labour Scheduling, Monthly Status Report, Quarterly Business Review, cash management and inventory management.
- Analyzes financial reports to identify and address trends and issues in store performance, and maximises profits through sales forecasting.
- Uses discretion in accessing external resources to support store operations and execute district and regional initiatives.
- Identifies current and future customer requirements by establishing rapport with customers and partners, solicits feedback, and researches local markets.
- Achieves financial objectives based on the annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analysing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
- Manages store revenue, including cash handling, deposit reconciliation, and delivery to bank.
- Ensures merchandise availability, approves contracts, maintains inventories, and manages stock levels.
- Ensures standards for quality, customer service and health and safety are met.
- Provides coaching, feedback and developmental opportunities, building effective teams.
- Conducts performance assessments, sets goals, and uses performance management tools.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with partners, addressing motivations, cultural nuances, and concerns.
- Ensures partners and team members adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
- Recognises and reinforces individual and team accomplishments using existing organizational tools and new methods.
- Shares coffee knowledge, drives coffee conversation, and creates a culture of coffee appreciation.
- Interviewing, training partners, planning, assigning and directing work.
- Conducts goal setting, appraisal, and review performance to achieve organisational goals.
- Addresses complaints, resolves problems, and conducts regular store meetings.
Summary of Experience
- Progressive responsibility in a retail or restaurant environment – 3 years.
- Experience in analyzing financial reports and supervision – 1 year.
