Job summary

CEPT University invites applications for the Full-time position of Assistant Professor in the CEPT Foundation Program, in the area of Design. The initial appointment shall be for three years, extendable based on a review, and open to candidates from any location.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Design with at least 8 years of total experience in practice, teaching or research.
• Master's Degree preferred in Product Design, Communication Design, or Graphic Design with at least 5 years of experience.
• Doctoral Degree preferred; candidates in final stage may apply.
• Ability to integrate innovative teaching and mentoring approaches.

Responsibilities

• Teach foundation studios for interdisciplinary batches (Architecture, Design, Planning, Technology).
• Contribute to curriculum refinement and development of teaching materials for foundation education.
• Ensure consistent teaching with regular feedback and comments to students.
• Support fair evaluation through moderation, grading oversight, and remedial teaching support.
• Coordinate documentation and exhibition of student work and outputs.
• Facilitate cross-unit communication and curriculum planning across units.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The year-long CEPT Foundation Program (CFP) introduces students to the rigor and work habits essential for pursuing undergraduate study. The program recognizes that professional development requires in-depth expertise as well as the ability to dialogue across disciplines. Students from the Faculties of Architecture, Design, Planning, and Technology study and work together, developing both cross-disciplinary understanding and discipline-specific skills.

CEPT University invites applications from academics, researchers and practicing professionals for the Full time position of Assistant Professor at the CEPT Foundation Program in the area of Design. The positions are suited for candidates keen to engage with teaching and research at CEPT. The initial appointment shall be for a three-year period, extendable based on a review process. The positions are open to candidate from any location. All positions are based at the CEPT campus, Ahmedabad.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• The faculty members at the CEPT University are engaged in a combination of teaching, research and institutional work.


• Conduct foundation studios for interdisciplinary student batches (Architecture, Planning, Civil Engineering and Design disciplines). The studio is a sequence of modules organised around four key thematic areas: Visualise and Draw, Make and Learn, Analyse and Interpret, and Conceptualise and Represent.


• Contribute to curriculum refinement and the development of teaching and learning materials for foundation-level education and participate in the development of teaching and learning materials.


• Ensure consistency and parity in the teaching process through delivering the program’s curriculum with regular feedback and written comments to the students.


• Support fair performance evaluation through moderation, oversight of grading, result processing, grievance redressal, and remedial/extra teaching support.


• Coordinate documentation, curation, and exhibition of student work and academic outputs.


• Facilitate effective communication and alignment across academic units, while representing individual units in curriculum planning, operations and development initiatives.


• Prepare and administer admission examination papers, and coordinate the admissions assessment process for progression into the institution after the first year.

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA AND EXPERTISE

• Bachelor's Degree: A relevant Bachelor's Degree in Design or a relevant allied discipline, with a minimum of 8 years of total experience in professional practice, teaching and research, or a combination thereof.


• Master's Degree (Preferred): A relevant Master's Degree in Product Design, Communication Design, Graphic Design or a relevant allied discipline, with a minimum of 5 years of total experience in professional practice, teaching and research, or a combination thereof.


• Doctoral Degree (Preferred): A relevant Doctoral Degree in Design or a relevant allied discipline. Candidates in the final stage of their PhD may also apply.

EXPERTISE REQUIRED

• Demonstrated excellence in academic study, professional practice, or research through their primary academic/professional endeavors in related disciplinary pursuits.


• Ability to integrate innovative teaching and mentoring approaches within an evolving pedagogical framework.


• Ability to mentor and guide first-year students with patience, persistence, and a strong commitment to academic quality.


• Alignment with student-centric and pedagogy-driven teaching approaches for foundation-level education across different disciplines.


• Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong analytical, verbal, written and visual communication.


• Proficiency in relevant software applications, including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere), AutoCAD, Rhino and SketchUp and working familiarity with generative AI tools and their implications for teaching.


• Demonstrate ability to integrate professional best practices into teaching and learning processes.
