Job summary

John Cockerill is seeking a skilled fabrication supervisor to oversee heavy fabrication activities, ensuring work is completed to drawings, specs and quality standards. You will supervise welders, fitters and finishing crews, allocate manpower, monitor materials and optimize production flow on the shop floor.

Responsibilities include reading fabrication drawings, coordinating with planning, quality and maintenance, and enforcing safety procedures.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of experience in heavy fabrication, structural fabrication & equipment fabrication
• Diploma/B.E./B.Tech. in Mechanical or Production Engineering is required
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and welding symbols (WPS)

Responsibilities

• Plan, schedule and monitor daily fabrication activities per production priorities
• Supervise fit-up, welding, gas cutting, grinding, assembly and finishing
• Allocate manpower and work fronts to meet daily/weekly targets
• Ensure availability and proper use of materials, consumables, tools and equipment
• Read and interpret fabrication drawings and welding symbols; coordinate with Planning, Quality, Engineering, Stores and Maintenance
• Monitor weld quality, dimensional accuracy and fabrication sequence
• Ensure adherence to approved procedures and practices for welders and operators
• Identify bottlenecks and take corrective actions to avoid delays
• Control rework, wastage and idle time; maintain records
• Ensure safe handling and movement of fabricated components; enforce safety procedures
• Guide and develop fabrication workers and maintain shop-floor discipline
• Implement 5S, Kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives

Job Purpose

To supervise and control heavy fabrication activities to achieve safe, high-quality and productive fabrication as per approved drawings, production plans and idelivery schedules.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, schedule and monitor daily fabrication activities as per production priorities.


• Supervise fit-up, welding, gas cutting, grinding, assembly and finishing activities.


• Allocate manpower and work fronts to achieve daily/weekly production targets.


• Ensure availability and proper utilization of raw materials, consumables, tools andequipment.


• Read and interpret fabrication drawings, welding symbols, WPS and applicable specifications. Coordinate with Production Planning, Quality, Engineering, Stores and Maintenance for smooth execution.


• Monitor weld quality, dimensional accuracy, fit-up and fabrication sequence.


• Ensure welders and operators follow approved procedures and qualified practices.


• Identify bottlenecks and take corrective actions to avoid production delays.


• Control rework, rejection, material wastage and idle time.


• Maintain daily production records, manpower deployment and progress reports.


• Ensure proper handling, lifting and movement of fabricated components.


• Implement 5S, Kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives.


• Ensure strict compliance with Safety procedures, PPE requirements and work permits.


• Guide and develop fabrication workers and maintain discipline on the shop floor.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should be an Diploma / B.E./B.Tech. in Mechanical or Production Engineering. 5–10 years of experience in heavy fabrication, structural fabrication & equipment fabrication
