Job summary

Birla Carbon in Bengaluru seeks an Area Legal Manager to oversee legal activities for branches, advise on transaction structuring, and mitigate risks under Indian contract and real estate laws.

You will draft standard agreements, coordinate with external law firms, review collateral documents and title searches, and support senior management with practical, compliant solutions across state jurisdictions.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Indian Contract Act, Transfer of Property Act, RERA, Stamp Act (Central & State), Specific Relief Act, and related Real Estate laws.
• Ability to draft legal reports and negotiate effectively.
• Experience advising business teams on transactions and legal risk across NBFC-like environments.

Responsibilities

• Review collateral-related documentation and title search reports.
• Coordinate with external law firms for documentation and opinions.
• Assist in development and updation of standard agreements, templates, and legal guidelines.

• Shall have good knowledge of Indian Contract Act, Transfer of Property Act, RERA, Stamp Act (Central & State), Specific Relief Act, applicable Real Estate laws, Companies Act, RBI, SARFAESI and related Policies, Directions, Circulars.
• Strong knowledge in drafting of legal report and negotiation skills.
• Ability to provide practical and innovative solutions.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills suitable for NBFC business environments.
• Support legal activities for the assigned branches.
• Assist in advising business teams on transaction structuring and legal risks.
• Assist in development and updation of standard agreements, templates, and legal guidelines.
• Coordinate with external law firms for documentation and legal opinions as required.
• Review collateral-related documentation and title search reports.
• Support seniors in handling complex transactions considering state-wise legal implications.

v Assess the referenced deal from all aspects including legal, commercial, risk, compliance and applicable law and highlight any risks therefrom

v Suggest the required legal mitigates and options in ring fencing the deal in order to protect the rights and interest of the Company

v Ensure that the volumes are met and the TAT is delivered maintain quality of the work.

Visits

v The LO shall be responsible for the visit of the assigned branches, he will also visit the Offices of the Govt Authorities as per the need. He will conduct meeting with our local legal vendors.
