Cognizant in India seeks an experienced Backend Senior Software Engineer (Node.js / API) to join the Digital Business Banking team. You will drive API strategy and deliver cloud-native microservices powering payments, onboarding, and money movement workflows.

Lead design and implementation with Node.js, TypeScript, REST APIs, and AWS. You will mentor teams, ensure security, observability, and CI/CD; collaborate with product, QA, cloud, and architecture.

Formación

• 7–10+ years of backend development with leadership responsibilities.
• Strong expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, Express/NestJS.
• Deep knowledge of REST APIs, microservices, and integration patterns.
• Experience with AWS cloud services (Lambda, API Gateway, ECS/EKS, SQS/SNS, DynamoDB, RDS).
• Solid database experience with SQL and distributed data systems.
• Experience with event-driven architecture and messaging systems (Kafka/SNS/SQS).
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, and DevOps practices.
• Familiarity with API Gateway and API lifecycle management; security practices.

About the Team

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Backend Senior Software Engineer (Node.js / API) to join the Digital Business Banking team. This team is responsible for building scalable, secure, and high-performance backend services supporting payments, onboarding, and money movement workflows.

As an Engineer, you will drive API strategy, and ensure delivery of robust, cloud-native microservices aligned with enterprise banking platforms.

What You Will Be Doing

Technical Leadership & Architecture

• Own the end-to-end backend design, and implementation of scalable API-driven systems.
• Lead development using Node.js, TypeScript, and microservices architecture.
• Define standards for API design, service communication, data flow, event-driven patterns, and security.
• Evaluate modern tools and technologies to enhance system scalability, resilience, and observability.

Core Engineering & Delivery

• Design and build RESTful APIs, backend services, and event-driven applications.
• Develop and maintain microservices hosted on AWS (Lambda, ECS/EKS, API Gateway, SQS/SNS).
• Ensure high performance, scalability, and fault tolerance across distributed systems.
• Guide implementation of API Gateway (Kong preferred), service mesh, and integration frameworks.

Problem Solving & Technical Ownership

• Translate business and domain requirements into scalable backend solutions.
• Troubleshoot complex issues across services, integrations, and cloud environments.
• Optimize application performance, latency, memory usage, and data processing efficiency.

Quality, Testing & Governance

• Implement strong backend testing practices including unit, integration, and contract testing.
• Drive code quality using static code analysis, security scanning (DevSecOps), and best practices.
• Introduce governance for observability, logging, monitoring, and CI/CD automation.

Collaboration & Mentoring

• Work with Product, Frontend, QA, Cloud, Security, and Architecture teams.
• Mentor developers and drive adoption of backend best practices and standards.
• Lead design discussions, API reviews, and technical roadmap planning.

What You Bring

• 7–10+ years of backend development experience with leadership responsibilities.
• Strong expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, Express/NestJS frameworks.
• Deep knowledge of REST APIs, microservices architecture, and integration patterns.
• Experience with AWS cloud services (Lambda, API Gateway, ECS/EKS, SQS/SNS, DynamoDB, RDS).
• Strong database experience with SQL (Oracle/SQL Server) and distributed data systems.
• Experience with event-driven architecture and messaging systems (Kafka/SNS/SQS).
• Hands‑on experience with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, and DevOps practices.
• Familiarity with API Gateway (Kong preferred) and API lifecycle management.
• Exposure to security best practices and DevSecOps workflows.
• Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical capabilities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
