Job summary

You will join the City of Leduc’s Parks & Open Spaces team as an Arborist Lead, providing hands‑on tree care across our urban canopy. Reporting to the Arborist Lead, you will supervise a field crew, perform pruning and hazard assessments, and ensure municipal standards are met in parks, boulevards, and natural areas.

Ideal candidates hold ISA Arborist Certification, 3+ years in arboriculture, and a valid Class 5Q license.

Qualifications

  • Arborist certification required and municipal arboriculture experience preferred.
  • High School diploma; forestry/ horticulture education beneficial.
  • Minimum 3+ years in arboriculture or municipal tree care.
  • Valid Class 5Q driver’s license with clean abstract.
  • Pesticide applicator license and supervisory experience are assets.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in variable conditions and heights.
  • Strong communication and safety-focused mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled pruning, removals, and structural tree care per ANSI/ISA standards across city parks, boulevards, and green spaces.
  • Safely operate and maintain aerial bucket trucks, wood chippers, chainsaws, stump grinders, and skid steers.
  • Conduct site inspections to identify hazards, executing risk-mitigation measures such as corrective pruning, cabling, or removals.
  • Identify, diagnose, and treat tree diseases and pest infestations using integrated pest management techniques and approved treatments.
  • Assist with tree planting and establishment, helping plant new stock and maintaining young trees across the community.
  • Provide peer guidance on safe work methods, sharing best practices and safe tool‑handling techniques with seasonal or labourer staff on your crew.
  • Maintain safety and operational documentation, including daily field logs, equipment circle checks, hazard assessments, and incident reporting.
  • Interact professionally with residents, providing helpful, courteous information when approached in the field or relaying public inquiries back to the Lead.

What is the Opportunity?

We’re looking for a skilled, hands‑on Arborist to support the long‑term health and safety of Leduc’s urban canopy. Reporting directly to the Arborist Lead, you will work as part of a dedicated field crew carrying out essential tree care operations across our parks, boulevards, facilities, and natural areas.

In this role, your primary focus is skilled, day‑to‑day tree maintenance and pruning under the direction of the Lead and the Parks Manager. Whether you are operating an aerial lift truck, working aloft to remove hazardous limbs, or diagnosing plant health issues on site, your craft directly protects our public spaces. You’ll work alongside a safety‑first team that values your technical arboriculture skills, mechanical aptitude, and commitment to municipal standards.

What will you do?

Who you are?
About

You’re a hands‑on professional who’s passionate about tree care and thrives outdoors. You bring a strong work ethic, arboriculture expertise, and the ability to work safely and independently. You have:

  • ISA Arborist Certification (required)
  • High School diploma (required); post‑secondary education in forestry or horticulture is an asset
  • 3+ years’ experience in arboriculture or municipal tree care operations
  • Valid Class 5Q Driver’s License with a clean abstract
  • Pesticide Applicator’s License and supervisory experience (assets)
  • Strong communication skills and a commitment to safe, efficient work
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, or stand‑by shifts
