Job summary

City of Mission Texas is seeking a Parks Irrigation Technician to maintain beautification areas, sprinkler systems, and drip irrigation for Mission City Parks, performing related grounds maintenance as directed by the supervisor.

The role requires a high school diploma, minimum three years of irrigation experience, knowledge of electrical and hydraulic components, and the ability to read schematics. On-call duties and weekend shifts may apply.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of three (3) years experience working with irrigation systems.
• Knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to irrigation systems including automatic valves and controllers.
• Experience with various types of pumping systems.
• Basic knowledge of backflow, pressure back and back siphonage principles.
• Two years of landscaping experience and knowledge of grounds maintenance.
• Knowledge of installation and repair of drinking fountains, faucets, showers and toilets.

Responsibilities

• Program water pump station manually for irrigation of Mission Parks.
• Perform monthly, quarterly and annual preventative maintenance of irrigation system components.
• Disassemble and assemble units to perform preventive maintenance and repairs; maintain and repair pumps, sub-controllers, irrigation lines and control cables.
• Digs ditches to inspect and repair irrigation lines and control cables.
• Perform low voltage electrical diagnosis.
• Install and repair faucets, drinking fountains, showers and toilets.
• Report potentially unsafe conditions.
• May engage in other park maintenance duties as assigned by supervisor, including lawn maintenance.
• Applicant will be on call when needed and may work evenings or weekends as needed.

Job Summary

Maintain beautification areas, sprinkler system, and drip irrigation for Mission City Parks, engage in parks maintenance and other work assignments. Individual will be performing other duties assigned by the supervisor/department head when needed.

Education Requirements

• High school diploma or G.E.D. required.

Experience

• Minimum of three (3) years experience working with irrigation systems.
• Experience and knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to irrigation systems including automatic valves and controllers.
• Experience and knowledge of various types of pumping systems.
• Basic knowledge of backflow, pressure back and back siphonage principles.
• Basic knowledge of agronomy turf grass science.
• At least two (2) years of landscaping experience and knowledge of tools, methods and materials used in grounds to landscape and to maintain parks.
• Basic knowledge of installation and repair of drinking fountains, faucets, showers and toilets.

Employment Requirements

• Subject to a complete background investigation.
• Must pass a drug, physical, and pre-placement screenings administered by the City of Mission doctor at the City’s expense.
• Neat and professional appearance.
• Valid class "C" driver’s license with no more than two moving traffic violations within the last two years.

• Ability to install and repair PVC fittings and control cable pipes within Mission Parks.
• Ability to perform a wide variety of different types of tasks without the variety itself causing a loss of efficiency.
• Ability to make decisions based on available data/criteria, laws and regulations or city policy.
• Ability to handle special projects of diverse nature as assigned.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and city policy procedures.
• Ensures completion of work orders.
