Department and Work: The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) enforces central and state environmental regulations across Andhra Pradesh. The board monitors industrial effluents, ambient air emissions, hazardous chemical handling, municipal solid waste management, and river basin quality. An Assistant Environmental Engineer acts as the frontline technical officer who inspects industrial plants, verifies pollution control device operations, collects legal samples, processes consent orders, and tracks field-level compliance. The role is regular state government service, offering a promotional ladder upward to Environmental Engineer (EE), Senior Environmental Engineer (SEE), and Chief Environmental Engineer (CEE).
Regular Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Engineering from a UGC/AICTE-recognized university, or Section A & B clearance in AMIE (India) in Civil Engineering.
Cutoff Date: Candidates must possess the provisional degree or final pass certificate on or before the crucial date of the Detailed Notification (06/10/2026).
Final-year students whose final marks sheets or degrees are not declared by the crucial date are strictly ineligible. Diplomas without an engineering degree or AMIE are not accepted for this role.
General / Unreserved (UR) / BC (Creamy Layer): Rs. 370 (Rs. 250 Application Processing Fee + Rs. 120 Examination Fee)
SC / ST / BC (Non-Creamy Layer) / PwBD / Ex-Servicemen: Rs. 250 (Application Processing Fee only; exempt from Rs. 120 Examination Fee)
Payment Modes: Net Banking, Debit Card, Credit Card, and UPI through the integrated payment gateway.
Refund Policy: The application and processing fee is strictly non-refundable under all circumstances. Incomplete, duplicate, or rejected applications will not get fee reversals.
The Assistant Environmental Engineer post balances office administration with demanding field work. It is not an idle desk assignment.
Daily Field Inspections (40% to 50% of the role): AEEs travel to industrial estates, chemical complexes, pharma manufacturing parks, thermal power stations, and municipal waste treatment facilities. You inspect effluent treatment plants (ETPs), sewage treatment plants (STPs), and air pollution control devices (electrostatic precipitators, bag filters, scrubbers). You must collect stack emissions, wastewater samples, and hazardous sludge under strict legal chain-of-custody protocols for laboratory analysis.
Scrutiny and Clearances (30% of the role): You review industrial applications submitted online for Consent to Establish (CTE) and Consent to Operate (CTO). This requires checking mass-balance calculations, water consumption data, chimney heights, and toxic byproduct disposal plans against statutory standards.
Legal Reporting and Crisis Response (20% of the role): You draft technical inspection reports, issue show-cause notices for unauthorized discharges, seal non-compliant units under direct executive magistrate orders, and provide factual technical data for litigation before the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and High Court.
Work Pressure and Hierarchy: AEEs report directly to the Environmental Engineer (EE) heading the Regional Office. Work pressure spikes during emergency industrial accidents, gas leaks, water contamination complaints, public hearings for Environmental Clearances, and time-bound NGT report submissions.
Best Suited For:
Candidates with strong foundations in chemical processes, fluid mechanics, industrial hydraulics, and environmental engineering laws.
Job seekers who prefer on-ground technical enforcement, site visits, and scientific laboratory coordination over repetitive office typing.
Engineering graduates preparing for state technical services or GATE/engineering services who want a gazetted-level pay scale within their home state.
Aspirants who can maintain firm ethical standards when facing commercial pressure from private plant managements and local stakeholders.
Not Recommended For:
Candidates looking for a low-stress 9-to-5 desk job. Emergency factory inspections, odd-hour chemical leak verifications, and urgent compliance audits require sudden travel.
Those with respiratory allergies or severe chemical sensitivities, as periodic exposure to heavy industrial zones, treatment plants, and landfill sites is an inescapable job requirement.
Applicants unwilling to serve in regional industrial clusters (such as Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Nellore, Tirupati, or Kurnool) or remote industrial corridors away from major urban centers.
Base Age: Minimum 18 years, Maximum 42 years (calculated as on the crucial notification cutoff date).
BC, SC, and ST candidates of Andhra Pradesh: 5 years upper age relaxation (up to 47 years).
Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): 10 years upper age relaxation (up to 52 years).
Ex-Servicemen: Deduction of 3 years plus the actual length of military service from their real age.
Non-local / Other State Candidates: Eligible under Open Competition (OC) without reservation benefits or age concessions (maximum age 42 years).
