Job summary

Vanguard is expanding its Hyderabad, India tech center and seeks an Applications Engineer III to design, build, and support cloud-based services for the Charitable Gifting Platform. You will work across frontend, backend, API, and batch components, steering modernization and production support.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in software development, strong Java and AWS experience, and a track record of delivering scalable, secure applications.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of software development, system integration, database design, and back-end architecture.
• Bachelor’s degree (B.E./B.Tech) in Computer Science or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Expertise in server-side development, API management, and database design with performance tuning.
• Strong hands-on experience in Java application development and RESTful APIs.
• Proficiency in AWS Cloud Services, including Aurora, RDS, and Redshift.
• Experience with batch processing frameworks like AWS Glue or Control-M.
• Knowledge of cloud-native architecture and distributed systems.
• Experience with frontend tech (React.js/Angular) is a plus.

Responsibilities

Role Summary

As an Application Engineer III, you will be responsible for designing, building, and supporting cloud-based applications and services for the Vanguard Charitable Gifting Platform. You will work on frontend, backend, API, and batch-processing components while contributing to platform modernization, production support, and the strategic transition of platform ownership to India.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable, high-performance applications using Java and AWS technologies.
• Develop and support RESTful APIs, backend services, and cloud-native solutions to meet business requirements.
• Build and maintain frontend, backend, and batch-processing components of the Charitable Gifting platform.
• Design, optimize, and manage database solutions using Aurora, RDS, Redshift, and SQL.
• Participate in platform modernization initiatives, feature enhancements, and application upgrades.
• Collaborate with product owners, business stakeholders, architects, and cross-functional teams to deliver secure and reliable technology solutions.
• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and support incident resolution activities.
• Ensure application performance, scalability, security, and operational stability through best engineering practices.
• Contribute to code reviews, technical design discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support knowledge transition, operational readiness, and long-term ownership of the Vanguard Charitable Gifting Application

Qualifications And Skills

• Minimum 5 years of experience in software development, system integration, database design, and back-end architecture.
• Bachelor’s degree (B.E./B.Tech) in relevant fields such as Computer Science, or a Master’s degree/Diploma in Computer Science.
• Expertise in server-side development, system integration, and API management; strong knowledge of database design, optimization, debugging, and performance tuning.Required Skills
• Strong hands-on experience in Java application development.
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Proficiency in AWS Cloud Services, including Aurora, RDS, and Redshift.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and database design, development, and optimization.
• Experience with batch processing frameworks such as AWS Glue, Control-M, or similar tools.
• Understanding of cloud-native application architecture and distributed systems.
• Experience with application support, troubleshooting, and production issue resolution.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills.Effective communication and collaboration skills.
• Experience with React.js /Angular nfor frontend development - Good to have
• Experience working in Financial Services, Wealth Management, or Investment platforms.
• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and DevOps practices.
