Job summary

Vanguard is seeking an Application Engineer III to design, develop, and modernise enterprise‑scale financial analytics APIs and microservices from our Hyderabad office. Qualifications

Role Summary

We are seeking an Application Engineer III (5-8 years experience) to design, develop, and modernise enterprise‑scale financial analytics APIs and microservices. The role focuses on building centralised cloud‑native services that deliver portfolio analytics, investment performance, holdings, balances, and other financial insights across web, mobile, and future digital platforms. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, AWS, DynamoDB, and API development, with the ability to build scalable, high‑performance solutions in a financial services environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, enhance, and maintain scalable, high-performance APIs and microservices supporting enterprise financial analytics platforms.
• Provide senior‑level system analysis, design, development, implementation, and integration of applications, databases, and third‑party solutions.
• Translate business and technical requirements into robust, maintainable code for new applications and enhancements. Develop, test, and deploy software solutions while supporting automation initiatives.
• Lead backend system optimisation efforts to ensure high availability, scalability, performance, and responsiveness under varying workloads.
• Design and implement cloud‑native solutions using Java, Spring Boot, AWS, DynamoDB, and microservices architecture.
• Spearhead the integration of multiple data sources, APIs, and services to streamline data flow and improve overall system efficiency.
• Build and modernise centralised financial analysis services that provide portfolio analytics, investment performance, holdings, balances, and other investment insights.
• Collaborate with front‑end and cross‑functional teams to design backend services and interfaces that deliver seamless user experiences.
• Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, code reviews, testing, and production deployments to ensure quality and adherence to engineering standards.
• Elevate code through development, testing, and production environments while providing production support and managing change control processes.
• Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, ensuring architecture, workflows, and backend logic are well documented for cross‑functional teams.
• Implement and advocate best practices for software engineering, security, data protection, system resiliency, and compliance with enterprise technology standards.
• Mentor junior engineers, provide technical guidance, and help resolve complex technical issues and escalations.
• Analyse system performance, troubleshoot issues, and recommend continuous improvements to application architecture and development processes.
• Communicate technical concepts, risks, and solutions effectively to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with organisational technology, security, and governance policies while delivering high‑quality, reliable solutions.
• Support API modernization and platform engineering initiatives that enable a centralised enterprise‑scale API ecosystem.
• Participate in special projects and other duties as required to support business and technology objectives.

Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum 5 years of experience in software development, system integration, database design, and back-end architecture.
• Bachelor’s degree (B.E./B.Tech) in relevant fields such as Computer Science, or a Master’s degree/Diploma in Computer Science.
• Expertise in server‑side development, system integration, and API management; strong knowledge of database design, optimisation, debugging, and performance tuning.
• Strong experience in Java and Spring Boot for building enterprise‑grade applications and RESTful APIs.
• Hands‑on expertise in designing and developing Microservices‑based architectures.
• Proven experience with API development, including scalable, secure, and high‑performance services.
• Strong knowledge of AWS cloud services and cloud‑native application development.
• Experience with DynamoDB and NoSQL database design.
• Understanding of software design principles, system integration, and distributed systems.
• Good problem‑solving, debugging, and performance optimisation skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
