Job description

Animal Welfare Officer

Turn your passion for animals into a lifetime of impact.

If you ve ever dreamed of dedicating your life to helping animals, this may be the opportunity you ve been looking for.

Many of the people who join Animal Aid Unlimited spent their childhood rescuing injured birds, feeding street dogs, fostering kittens, or imagining that one day they might start a shelter of their own. They knew they wanted to help animals-but never imagined it could become a meaningful, lifelong career.

At Animal Aid, it can.

As an Animal Welfare Officer, you ll become the advocate for hundreds of rescued animals every day. You ll learn to understand their individual personalities, recognise their needs, lead teams of caregivers, coordinate with veterinarians, and ensure every animal receives the highest possible standard of care.

This isn t simply animal care. It s leadership, responsibility, problem-solving, and becoming someone capable of changing the lives of thousands of animals throughout your career.

Build skills that will stay with you for life

Working at Animal Aid is unlike almost any other animal welfare role in India.

Over time youll gain practical experience in animal behaviour and welfare, shelter management, nutrition, health monitoring, rehabilitation, staff leadership, volunteer management, animal handling, team coordination, and working alongside experienced veterinarians and veterinary nurses.

Whether your dream is to grow into leadership at Animal Aid, work with another rescue organization, manage a sanctuary, rehabilitate wildlife, or even establish your own shelter one day, the knowledge and confidence you gain here will stay with you for the rest of your life.

Be the person who notices what others dont

Every animal has their own story. Youll learn which dog becomes anxious during thunderstorms, which elderly cow needs encouragement to eat, which puppy is becoming unwell, and which animals should or shouldnt be housed together. Sometimes the smallest observations prevent the biggest problems. Our Animal Welfare Officers make sure no animal is overlooked.

Learn from an exceptional team

Our Animal Welfare Officers receive extensive hands-on training over several months while learning directly from experienced Animal Welfare Managers, veterinarians, veterinary nurses, caregivers and fellow AWOs. As your confidence grows, so will your responsibilities.

Lead people as well as animals

Youll gradually learn to lead caregiver teams, train new staff, guide volunteers, coordinate with veterinary teams, identify welfare concerns before they become emergencies, and help improve the lives of hundreds of animals every day.

Grow into leadership

Many of Animal Aids leadership roles begin here. As your knowledge and experience develop, opportunities may arise to progress into Animal Welfare Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator, Emergency Desk Manager, Cruelty Prevention Coordinator and many other leadership positions.

A culture built on compassion

Animal Aid is proudly women-led, with many of our leadership positions held by women who have built their careers through dedication, expertise, and compassion. We believe diverse leadership makes us stronger, and we are committed to creating an environment where talented people can grow into positions of responsibility.

Our founders and senior leadership are vegan, and Animal Aid s vision is deeply rooted in the belief that every animal has inherent value and deserves compassion and respect. We welcome people from different backgrounds and experiences, but we look for team members who genuinely share our commitment to protecting animals and want to use their talents to create a kinder world for them.

being vegetarian or vegan is a requirement for this position. We see this as an important part of living the values that an Animal Welfare Officer is responsible for representing and promoting.

Who were looking for

We re looking for people who genuinely care about animals and want to build a meaningful career helping them. You don t need previous shelter experience. We value curiosity, compassion, reliability, leadership potential, and a willingness to relocate to Udaipur.
