Job description

The role focuses on overseeing financial aspects of trading activities and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the bank’s trading book. It involves maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements while providing insights into trading performance and financial outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reconcile daily profit and loss (P&L) figures for trading desks and ensure alignment with valued positions in the trading book.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in P&L reporting to ensure the figures reflect the true economic value of the trading portfolio.
  • Assist in identifying, assessing, and mitigating trading risks, and report these risks to senior colleagues.
  • Maintain and analyse trading data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency, while providing insights on performance to traders and leadership.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports to authorities and support external audits by addressing queries and ensuring trading activity is correctly represented in financial statements.
  • Communicate complex financial information effectively to traders, risk professionals, senior colleagues, and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure coordinated trading operations.
  • Contribute to the work of related teams within the function and partner with other business areas.
  • Take responsibility for the outcomes of operational processing and team activities.
  • Escalate breaches of policies or procedures when required.
  • Support the adoption of new policies and procedures introduced for risk mitigation.
  • Provide advice and influence decision making within the area of expertise.
  • Take ownership of risk management and strengthen controls related to assigned work.
  • Build an understanding of how the sub-function integrates with the wider organisation, including its products, services, and processes.
  • Use analytical judgement to evaluate factual information and maintain strong attention to detail.
  • Resolve issues by applying technical experience and established precedents.
  • Communicate complex or sensitive information and guide team members when necessary.
  • Act as a point of contact for stakeholders outside the immediate team and build professional networks.
Skills and Additional Qualifications
  • Experience working with MS Office tools including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access database.
  • Ability to interact with global teams across regions such as the UK and US through effective written and verbal communication.
  • Strong awareness of controls and the ability to identify and elevate potential control issues.
  • Capability to break down complex problems and develop practical solutions.
  • High level of attention to detail and analytical thinking.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field.
  • CFA or Master’s in Finance/Financial Engineering preferred.

Additional qualifications such as CFA, a master’s degree in finance or financial engineering, articleship or industrial trainee experience, and audit exposure in large financial institutions or banks are considered beneficial.
