Job summary

ePlane’s Airworthiness group is seeking an engineer focused on design assurance and safety of flight controls for VTOL aircraft. The role involves coordinating with design teams to meet DGCA design requirements for Type Certification.

The ideal candidate has a background in avionics/aerospace/electrical engineering, with hands-on experience in control law design, flight dynamics modeling and FBW systems. Chennai location with 3–5 years experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Avionics Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical or related field.
• Experience in fixed/rotary wing aircraft/UAV/VTOL flight control law design.
• Experience developing safety-critical analysis for flight controls.
• Knowledge of DGCA rules on Type Certification and ITSO authorization.
• Familiarity with ARP4754A/4761A/ DO178C standards.

Responsibilities

• Interact with design groups to ensure DGCA compliance for Type Certification.
• Design and develop control laws for VTOL aircraft and trajectory optimization.
• Develop flight dynamic models and run simulations.
• Work on FBW flight control systems and actuator/motor control loops.
• Perform flight testing, system identification and post-flight analysis.

The Airworthiness group at ePlane company is looking for someone in design assurance and safety of flight controls systems for ePlane’s electric propulsion VTOL aircraft, to interact with ePlane design groups for the compliance of DGCA’s applicable design requirements for the Type Certification of the aircraft.

Technical Skills

• Control Law Design & Development: Experience in designing and developing control laws for VTOL aircraft, including trajectory optimization.
• Flight Dynamics & Simulation: Ability to develop and analyze flight dynamic models for simulation.
• Flight Control Systems: Experience with Fly-By-Wire (FBW) flight control systems and actuator/motor control loops.
• Software & Programming: Proficiency in MATLAB, Simulink, C++, and flight simulation software like X-Plane and Gazebo.
• Flight Testing & Data Analysis: Experience in flight testing, system identification, and post-flight analysis.

Must-Have:

1. A Bachelor’s degree in Avionics Engineering/ Aerospace Engineering/ Electrical Engineering/ Electrical & Electronics Engineering or a related field is required.
2. Working experience in fixed/rotary wing aircraft/UAV/VTOL Flight control law design, flight dynamics modeling, integration and troubleshooting.
3. Experience in developing safety critical analysis for flight controls systems.
4. Knowledge in DGCA rules & regulations specifically on aircraft Type Certification, design organization approval and ITSO authorisation.
5. Experience with ARP4754A/4761A/ DO178C/DO 160G/DO-254 standards.

Good to Have

1. Master’s degree in Flight Control Systems or Aerospace Engineering.
2. Understanding of CS/FAR-23 or CS/FAR-27 regulations of EASA / FAA.
3. Prior experience in working on Type certification and ITSO authorisation.
4. Knowledge of Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and Lean methodologies.
5. Experience in maintenance, reliability analysis, and risk assessment.
6. Understanding of Prototype manufacturing of aircraft.
7. Knowledge in preparation of technical documents and manuals for the type certification.
