Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join us as an AI Enablement Analyst within the Coffee division, based in Bangalore, India,, and to work in a truly global environment.

Based in Bangalore within Volcafe’s Supply Chain Global Business Services group, the AI Enablement Analyst helps optimise the day-to-day tasks of the group and streamline the physical coffee supply chain from origin to the end customer. The role centres on the end-to-end flow of green coffee – origination, contract execution, shipment and logistics, inventory, quality, documentation, certification, invoicing, and settlement – finding where the process can be streamlined leveraging technology and AI. The role follows Bangalore business hours, aligned with global handoff needs.

Working hand in hand with cross-functional teams and colleagues around the globe – origin, operations, logistics, trade, finance, quality, and compliance – the analyst maps how coffee actually moves and where friction, duplication, and manual effort slow it down. They turn those insights into clearer workflows, better data, and practical improvements that raise speed, control, and visibility across the supply chain lifecycle, and that hand off cleanly between regions and global teams.

AI and automation are core enablers rather than the objective. Every recurring manual task is challenged, with the analyst applying AI, automation, and analytics to remove low-value effort so the team can focus on exceptions, judgement, and decisions. This is a hands‑on, operations‑close role for someone who understands the how supply chains operate and is comfortable getting into operational details.

The role provides long term development potential for someone eager to demonstrate their skills and experience in the fast‑paced soft commodities environment

Business Overview:

Volcafe Ltd is one of the world’s leading international green coffee trading companies, operating in over 20 countries globally. Our expertise spans green coffee procurement and preparation, sustainability, blending, quality control, risk management and export as well as importing and distribution. We supply the world’s major coffee roasters and retail distributors with their green coffee requirements, with significant strategic growth ambitions for the future. We are part of ED&F Man Commodities, a world leading trader of agricultural products including coffee, sugar, molasses and animal feed.

Volcafe works across the whole green coffee supply chain to make coffee business better, together with our partners and employees. We have built and operate sustainable coffee supply chains across all our origins, addressing key economic, social and environmental issues in coffee farming communities. Our Volcafe Way farmer support programme engages with thousands of coffee farmers and provides a holistic response to the challenges they face.

This role will be working for ED&F Man Commodities India Private Limited, Volcafe’s company in India.

Key Accountabilities:
Supply Chain Workflow Enablement:
  • Work across the full coffee supply chain – from origination and contract execution through shipment, inventory, quality, and documentation to settlement.
  • Simplify and standardise workflows and documentation so they are more reliable, hand off cleanly across time zones, and can be reused across origins.
  • Challenge every recurring manual task, applying automation, analytics, and AI to remove low-value effort so the team can focus on exceptions and judgement.
  • Turn business needs into clear requirements, practical prototypes, and reusable process improvements.
  • Build lightweight tools for operational summaries, exception tracking, and reporting that give global teams timely visibility and surface issues early.
  • Keep financially sensitive outputs accurate and auditable, using AI for summaries and explanations rather than calculations.
  • Train users, gather feedback, and iterate workflows to drive adoption and measurable improvement.
  • Give global teams clear daily recaps and operational alerts on what changed during Asia hours.
AI Workflow Design & Implementation:
  • Identify which tasks to automate, which to assist with AI, and which to eliminate – prioritising by ease, effort, and level of pain.
  • Design practical AI-assisted workflows for operational Q&A, document review, exception triage, and reporting across the lifecycle.
  • Use AI to summarise contracts, shipment updates, inventory movements, and origin reports, and to explain what changed and why.
  • Keep a person in the loop for anything touching trade, finance, logistics, or external communications, with clear escalation points.
  • Ensure calculations, reconciliations, and financially sensitive outputs stay accurate, validated, and auditable.
  • Measure impact – effort saved and cycle time – capturing a baseline before each change so improvements are evidenced, not estimated.
What Success Looks Like:
  • Coffee moves more smoothly from origin to the end customer, with fewer delays, handoff gaps, and manual touchpoints along the way.
  • Physical operations workflows are more standardised, reliable, and less dependent on individuals or spreadsheets.
  • Recurring manual tasks are measurably reduced, with effort saved and cycle times improved against a baseline captured before each change.
  • Cross-functional and global teams get faster, clearer, and more reliable operational information.
  • Improvements built and deployed are reused across regions and origins rather than rebuilt each time.
  • AI and automation are trusted and adopted because they are practical, auditable, and fit how the supply chain actually works.
Skills and Experience:
  • 2–5 years of experience in commodities, trade operations, trade lifecycle support, logistics, business analysis, data analytics, or related roles.
  • Strong understanding of physical commodity workflows, ideally coffee, agricultural products, soft commodities, or related supply chains.
  • Working knowledge of contracts, shipments, inventory, pricing, quality, invoicing, settlements, exposure, or PnL reporting.
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort working with operational data in Excel, SQL, Python, Power BI, or similar tools.
  • Ability to work directly with commercial and operational users in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate messy business processes into structured solutions.
  • Curiosity about AI, prompt engineering, workflow automation, and modern data tools.
Strongly Preferred:
  • Coffee, cocoa, sugar, grains, oilseeds, or other agricultural commodity experience.
  • Experience with ETRM/CTRM systems, trade capture tools, logistics systems, or in‑house commercial platforms.
  • Exposure to AI/LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, agentic workflows, or workflow automation tools.
  • Experience documenting user stories, process maps, business requirements, test cases, or operating procedures.
  • Experience supporting geographically distributed commercial and operations teams.
